no doubt jag will be there at both melb and syd motershows.

Its totally bogus coz there is no additional stock coming into the country other that customer specific orders. We'll have possibly two demo models available to be driven when they arrive. Car will be here by October 2007. Come in and i'll take you for a wrap

Apparently there'll be no manuals offered at all. Why Jaguar, why?

Interesting pictures of mockups for the XF. I personally think some are better looking than the final result, at least in the details.

Because 95% of Jag buyers don't want them?

I've seen manual S-Types, petrol and diesel. And most X-Types I've seen are manual. Furthermore, isn't Jaguar supposed to be sporty? At least they could offer the choice.

Ferrari only offered an auto gearbox in their 4 door family car, and last I checked they have slightly better sporting credentials than Jag.

Have you ever stopped to consider what the market wants before you post?

Erm... are you speaking of the Quattroporte? For a long time it was only available with a manual with an automated clutch.

And anyway, I'm sure in Europe many would consider the manual. Of course who cares about that market...

Jaguar have stated intentions to emphasize a sporting image around their new generation of sedans, which was said to have had an influence on the final design of the XF. It would have been logical to offer a manual if they wanted to solidify their statements and further appeal to their revised target consumer.

But sporting image does not automatically equal a manual now unfortunately. But I also think you'd be hard pressed to find a Jag owner who'd complain the ZF 6spd box fitted to their car.

Also I've read it'll start at about £33,000 or about 49.000€ or over AUD$81,000. That's a lot of money and a manual could be an easy way of offering a cheaper entry level XF. And since this car is based on the old S-Type there's no further engineering needed.

A manual isn't necessarily going to be cheaper, and certainly not now. If Jaguar where to want to add a manual option now it'd cost them a lot of money, developing a gearbox to fit in, testing it, creating new interior panels, a pedal box, etc.

I certainly wouldn't complain - it's a brilliant transmission. However, there is a large market of people that expect a manual transmission from a 'sporty' sedan.

You may be right about the interior, but probably not about the engineering, since a manual was already offered in the old S-type.
