    Mazda 787B

I have to admit, the Mazda 787B has really grown on me the few past months. I was suprised to actually find out that it was rotary powered, and it beat the Sauber Mercedes at LeMans. I am just wondering what your thought on it are.

My thought is, that it's a freakin' ledgend. And that the MXR-01 that replaced it looks even cooler, but, alas, couldn't deliver. Oh, and I think it's cool that it's N/A.

You are kidding me aren't you?

Anyway, I think it's an awesome machine, a true underdog.

Are you serious? that is practically the only well renowned fact about the car.

You're actually pretty close to the truth, in a way, sort of. Rotaries were banned by the FIA after it won as they said that rotaries had a significant weight advantage. Which is a shame, as they could've just worked out an equivalency formula for them, and Mazda could've continued to work at the engine and we may have had better rotaries than we do now. Pity.

When you put it like that, it is a pity.

Considering the engineering effort that went into the Renesis, i dont think we got that much of a raw deal.

Didn't two of them drop out, and one finished 2nd in class?

Yeah but if they made it heavier to be fair with the power/weight thing it would still have sucked with the fuel efficiency and the would have canned it anyway.

I was not aware of there being a minimum weight in Group C.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

I thought it was 1000kg, but the Mazda was running about 830kg. Although, I am by no means a Le Mans historic rulebook buff.

IIRC, Group C was based in fuel consumption/fuel tank size formula.
