Do we need armed forces to deal with local drug dealers? What about the local police? And in Afghanistan being a drug dealer and a terrorist is an unlikely combination, as it was the Taliban who banned all poppy growing.....

BTW, all the troops sent to iraq do ARE learned the iraqi culture (by polish experts)

to be honest, i'm somewhat interested in the coalition-army wars and have to admit i've never heard of any success of the dutch army they do that much as ukraine or norway... that is not too much

puhleaase, i'm talking about situations like fighting with the rebelians of defending some rocket-missle attacks. what does the dutch army do so wise then - go out on the street and say 'hey, let's talk?'
Just watch this piece of a documentary broadcasted on Dutch TV a few weeks ago.

So far they have kept a big region pretty safe. They arrested plenty of Taliban and also shot many. But only because the Taliban fired first !!

In their part of Kabul they took care of a much safer environment then the other coalition troops. So yes, they do something. Offcourse such a small nation as mine cannot do everything on its own ! Atleast they dont have the local population against them, like especially the US has.

the reputation of the Dutch army will always be tainted by the unfortunate events at Srebrenica...

But it isn't just the local population that is anti US - as proven by the major international decline of 'Brand America'

More pragmatism than cynicism, I reckon. Politics is a strange game indeed

Afghanistan & Iraq is a terrible mistake for our country too, as we were quite low on the radar before the AU Govt blundered us into our (deeply unpopular) involvement. However electoral change may be afoot, thank goodness. Forgive this big pic but Balkenende (aka Harry Potter) can't be any worse than our stupid little weed of a PM, aka "Honest John' Howard - and I do mean stupid!

(and I am probably one of the very few on this forum that actually served in the Dutch Army )

    Right..

So a little joke like that ruined your day? It's not like I don't support the Dutch way of doing things, or that I support America's go big or go home method, which I don't... it was a meaningless little joke. Tissue?

Its funny that you would criticize the way the Americans and allies fight wars Drakkie, considering a lot of Americans, as well as British and French young men, died trying to free your country from the Nazis. Maybe we should have left them alone, because you apparently don't have any respect for what the U.S. military has done for you and your people, if the Dutch way is so much better, why was your country overrun?

Other things aside, what impressed me most was this.

Maybe instead of sending more troops to Iraq we (USA) should make sure the ones already there are the best trained, best equipped fighters in the whole country? Just my $.02
