    M3 GTR vs. CLK DTM

This is a dual I always wished would have happened in an official race somewhere, under the same rules. But alas...

Luckily, we have the Car Comparison section at UCP!

Now imagine both cars had to comply to the very same rules, which would you rather race in?

Sorry if I cannot express myself correctly, but I don't know English as good as I want, so my answers will probably be the same in many cases.

If they had to comply to the same rules, then it's basically whatever one you like the look of better.

    So the CLK!

Not necessarily. Depends on what the rules are, but I hear you. In this context you're absolutely right I think.

In this day, the CLK DTM as BMW Motorsports stopped running the M3 GTR.

The CLK DTM has also been discontinued, replaced by the C-Klasse DTM a couple of years ago.

Who would win would depend on how you fixed the rules I guess. If it was done on engine power or power to weight ratios I think the DTM car would still be runaway favourite despite having its engine restricted. The M3 GTR is effectively an extensively modified and race-prepped roadcar chassis, as all GT cars are. DTM cars are totally different; they may resemble their roadcar cousins but they are in fact silhouette racers with custom designed carbon-kevlar-honeycomb monocoque chassis and have far more sophisticated aerodynamics than a GT car.

In terms of pace a DTM car should be way ahead. The only chance for the M3 GTR would be if it were a long endurance race as DTM cars are designed for more sprint-like races with much smaller fuel tanks etc.

I think in order to balance the whole rules thing, let's say 2 races were to take place. One following DTM rules, sprint race; another an endurance race, 12 hour event.

EDIT: Heck with these cars lets make it a whole season, half DTM rules-based sprint events and the other half a series of ALMS rules-based endurance events.

Well, if you put it like that, I guess the M3 GTR. It didn win the 2005 Nurburgring 24 Hours I believe.

    I love the M3 GTR.

    650bhp V8? I'll have some of that.

(I can't remember if that's the actual figure or whether that's what it makes with the air trumpets enlarged...)
