    Mitsubishi Evo X

X is Roman for ten. But we'd like to think it denotes and X rating--for the meanest, rawest Evo ever made. This future rally rocket was first previewed by the Concept X from last year's Tokyo auto show, and now a closer version is being shown here at Detroit. When the car goes on sale around this time next year, power will continue to come from a 2.0-liter turbo four, but output will push past the current Subaru WRX STI's 300-hp rating and a new, aluminum block will be used. Because it would be a shame not to use the new Outlander SUV's lovely magnesium-alloy paddle shifters, an automated manual transmission will be offered alongside a traditional 5-speed manual box. Naturally, the Evo will be driven by all four wheels, via a new S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) system that Mitsubishi promises will rival Honda's SH-AWD in sophistication. The new system will feature active steering, active yaw control, and myriad electronic sensors. We hope S-AWC doesn't compromise the great steering possessed by Evos VIII and IX--after all, Mitsubishi promises this will be the "largest leap in overall capability between two generations of the Evolution."

Hory clap! I haven't been this excited about a car since the first glimpses of the new mustang. Or maybe the Ford GT even.

Wow, that's a nice car. The design is great too, with subtle changes every generation without ruining the original idea. The headlights in the side view on the second picture remind me of those of a R34 GT-R. The paddle shift transmission is interesting too!

I think Subaru should be slightly worried about their next design. If they screw it up like the Tribecca, they're going to get hit hard on the sales.

orgasm. will make for an extreme rally car.

those pics arent too good though.

the biggest and best change seems to be the interior. The only downside to its predecessors.

So much technology and the manual has only 5 gears?

The only thing I'm unhappy about appearancewise is they went back to the black middle section of the front grill >.< I liked it red much better. Makes it look less like it's drooling agape.

Exactly. Standard Evolution comes with a 5-speed box, but opting for the MR version gets you the 6-speed close-ratio manual.

But, I think I'd have to see this car in person. Something looks.. weird about it, can't point it out, but, yeah.

Much better looking than the "old" lancer, at least it isn't bland anymore, question: thoose gear lever graphics look similar to the ones VW uses on their DSGs no?

I still think it should feature a 6-speed manual as standard. I find a 5-speed manual out of place in such a car these days.
