    Stephen Hawking goes Weightless

No, he's not going into outer space, but he's going in one of the "Vomit Comet" style airplane rides. It sounds cool, but I think that he's a bit too fragile to be doing stuff like that. It's not like I'm against it, but I think he's too valuable to risk such things. Just my opinion though.

Hawking is clever, and he can do what he wants. There are plenty of other clever physicists and mathmeticians out there; I think Hawkings may be given some undue credit as he is known publicly for writing a "Brief History of Time" (a worthwhile read). Exactly how good is he in the world of physics, I am not sure, but he is definetly one of the leading minds in black hole physics for sure.

Lulz, Stephen Hawking going weightless, that's a sight to see..

IMHO, Hawking hasn't been valuable since his original black hole theories and the progression of Lou Gehrig's Disease. Apparently it takes years for him to write articles with the help of his assistant, and the scientific community considers his new theories irrational.

Well if he doesn't prove his own theories, who will? He knows his own theories best. Sure, he hasn't proven it, but it is his theory.

Well if he doesn't prove his own theories, who's going to clean up after him?

Although, I really cannot comment because I don't know anything in the field, nor have I read "A Brief History in Time". So I really shouldn't be commenting.

Either way, I still think he's one of the most important scientific minds in the world.

Nobody wants to clean up the crap he's been spewing.

He's been claiming that all matter that enters a black hole simply.. disappears, into nothing. The problem with that is that it defies the most basic law of physics, "Matter can't be created nor destroyed, it can only change shape." People have come up with stuff like the matter being recorded at the edge of the black hole, almost like the tape from a cassette and can be unscrambled and reused, somehow... but it's far-fetched.

Yes, maybe I should edit it back... I didn't mean it that way, I should have looked over the post before I edited it. But I fixed it anyway.

True, but keep in mind that Galileo was thrown in jail for saying the earth was round... you never know

Actually, he was placed under house arrest for saying the Earth orbited the Sun. But you get two points and a poke in the eye for trying.

    Your the movie apollo 13
they had to tape all of the space scenes in the vomit comet
and the wiegthlessness in the vomit comet lasts for about 15 seconds. There are about 45min of space scenes in that movie.

    Oh yeah
    they didn't arrest Galileo
They made him revoke his own theories on the threat of being killed
