    CLK-GTR vs. Porsche GT1 vs. TVR Speed 12 vs. Nissan R390 GT1

    This is a comparison between four of the rarest GT road cars of 1998. Although the CLK-GTR clearly dominated the racing world, is the road car just as good? Not many cars in this class have been thoroughly road tested so the specs and numbers should not be the only thing to consider. The comparison includes the CLK-GTR, the Porsche GT-1, TVR Speed 12, and the Nissan R390 GT-1.

    CLK-GTR (1998)
    Engine = v12 60 degree, mid position
    Aspiration = natural
    Weight = 2205 lbs
    Power = 660 bhp @ 7000
    Torque = 516 ft/lbs @ 3700
    0-60 = 3.4 sec
    0-100 = 5.7 sec
    ¼ = 9.4 sec
    Top Speed = 191mph

    Porsche GT-1 (1998) Evo
    Engine = Flat 6
    Aspiration = Twin Turbo
    Weight = 2756 lbs
    Power = 544 bhp @7000
    Torque = 442.5 ft/lbs @ 4250
    0-60 = 3.6
    0-100 = N/A
    ¼ = N/A
    Top Speed = 192.6mph

    TVR Speed 12 (1998)
    Engine = *EDIT* v12
    Aspiration = N/A
    Weight = 2205 lbs
    Power = 960 bhp (approximately)
    Torque = 780 ft/lbs
    0-60 = 2.6s
    0-100 = N/A
    ¼ = N/A
    Top Speed = 240 mph (approximate)

    Nissan R390 GT-1 (1998)
    Engine = v8
    Aspiration = Twin Turbo
    Weight = 2420 lbs
    Power = 549 bhp @ 6800
    Torque = 470 ft/lbs @4400
    0-60 = 3.9 sec
    0-100 = N/A
    ¼ = 11.9
    Top Speed = 205 mph

    Add a poll!

    Mercedes for me. It's just plain awesome, it's not the quickest car on the block but by jingo it's cool.

    TVR a close second.

    The TVR you have included is the Cerbera Speed 12, not the Speed 12. The Speed 12 looks like this and IMO isn't anywhere near as sexy as the Cerbie:
    .

    The stats you have are for the Cerbera Speed 12, but the Cerbera Speed 12 was a 2000 car and not a 1997/8 car. The 1997 version had around 860bhp, but neither versions used a twin V6. Both used 2 Straight-6s joined together but they were by no means twin engines. It was engineered as one large engine.

    Regardless, I'd take the TVR for full out scare factor.

    What about the Toyota GT-One? It raced in 1998 as well.
    It gets my vote.

    Yes I know that the pic I have is not from the origional speed 12, I like the way the new one looks. Yes I know that the engine is two straight sixes, I must not have been clear enough, but thanks for your comments anyways. The engine is comprised of two TVR AJP6 engines on a single crank. When first TVR tested the Speed 12 engine, it broke the 1000 hp/rated dyno so they had to test each engine seperate. Each of the v6's rated in at 480 hp. TVR estimated that the hp was around 960, but cannot be sure. This is for the 1998 TVR SPeed 12 (http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...2/default.aspx)
    I guess you would rather find little inconsistancies in other users polls then simply enjoy debate. Either way I will edit the post to clarify

    Well, given the 911 GT1 was the last car to win LeMans before the prototypes took over.

    But out of all of these, Porsche.

    I wanted this comparison to be of the road cars that also raced. I have never herd of a road going version of the Toyota GT-1, was their?
