Cheap interior materials, Austin Metro 6R4 engine, terrible turbo lag even for the time, depreciation from £450k to £150k the second you bought it, failed promises including no V12 or V8. The only thing it had going for it is looks and okay handling. It also wasn't a '98 car ... it was '92 ... 6 years out.

ROFL. And maybe, just maybe the fact that it was the fastest production car in the world at the time. But I guess that's no real biggy...

There has to be since GT1 rules stated that at least one road car should be built. Unless this facelifted version was only an update or something.

The required number is around 24 or 25 road versions to be eligible, but that didnt seem to bother most teams.

Here is where I got some of the information to the 98 road version of the Porsche GT1. http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/cars/911gt1evo.html
As to the number produced, I would guess it would be under 5. Many of the teams stopped production on their road cars due to the new rules which rendered many of the current cars unable to compete. I beileve that Nissan only produced 2 road versions of their car. The CLK-GTR was produced in the highest number (5 roadsters, 25 regular). As for the TVR, only 1 is left in existance (I believe) as the rest were taken apart to keep the race version up and running.

In the real world that means very, very little. I'm talking about what actually matters; not irrelevent trophies.

There was at least one produced; I remember seeinag a pic of it at the time. But it was like the Toyota TS-020 (GT-One), they only made one of them because the FIA changed the rules of GT1 to try and attract more manufactures after the CLK-GTR almost killed the series. Your right, the pic on this thread is for the 1997 Evo, most of which were actually produced in 98.

I would love to take the CLK-GTR, but the Nissan R390 GT1 is a close second just because it's so rare.

The CLK takes the cake though. It's such a classy shape. Actually, I have it in die-cast. No bias whatsoever.

If I had a ton of money all 4 cars would be in my collection. I picked the GT1 because its one of my favorite street cars of all time. Im a hugh fan of the CLK-GTR as well. Great comparo btw.

I can personally gaunantee there was at least one Road Legal 98' GT1 as it was at Le Mans in 98' as I had the pleasure of being there, unfortunatley some jackass had put a bottle through the drivers side window, plastic over the window and green glass on the floor, truly an upsetting sight...
