    Ford Posts 2006 Losses Today

And might I add big losses at that; $12.7 Billion which divides out to just over $24,000 a minute.
"We know where we are, we're dealing with it and we're on plan," said Ford CEO Alan Mulally about the company's turnaround plans.

Well it is good to see that weak sales of the F150 contribute to the loss...

Isn't Wal-Mart making $24,000 a minute? Anyway, that's sick. Ford have serious problems now.

Are not. There are other French Canadian UCPers. See? I took mandatory French! Hahah. And yeah. Ford is in trouble now. THe other day I tried to think of the implications of GM going bankrupt. I wonder what would happen if both go under...

Ford's taking some strong medicine. But considering the monumentally disappointing 500 "flagship" sedan they impose on us poor yanks, I'd tell them to pinch their noses and drink deeply.

They hit one out of the park with the Focus, and the Mondeo also in Europe and GB. But like GM's Cobalt, that only makes one in a row.

The US economy, and soon after the world economy, would collapse. Especially if both of them went under. That's why the government won't let that happen.

I can almost see MrDETROITMETAL jumping up and down in glee.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

This isn't good. If your holding onto the success of your pickup trucks and SUV's to hold the company together and they're not selling, you really need to take a step back and look at the big picture again.

I don't get why they can make things so successful on their foreign market but completely blow it where it counts the most AT HOME.

Yep, the Ka's been going strong since 1995 now, without much in the way of a facelift or underbody change, and the first Focus was an absolute runaway success.

Unfortunately, the second Focus isn't doing as well as Ford expected- serves them right for being waaaaay too reserved with the design.

Badda's also right. The Ford offerings are limp. C&D ran a huge test of 6 family saloons for the American market, and the Ford Five Hundred, despite being one of the newest out of the pack, came 5th or 4th out of those 6, being soundly beaten by the 300C, Maxima and Avalon.

Ford shutting their eyes and singing, "I'm not listening, la la la!" will not sell cars. They need to get America's Focus- something that will take the market by storm. Another Mustang. Remember how successful the original was?

It would be a mighty shame to see them go under. I wish them all the best- but they've got some serious magic to work before they're in the black- if they ever get there.

The US Government up to now has spent about 14 bln dollar on its military actions in Afghanisten.....that is just a little bit more than Ford's loss over 2006.......

What I don't understand is why they are not bringing their European offerings to the US. They are very competent cars and priced competitively they'd be a success.

For instance why Ford's domestic market has to make do with a facelifted Mk I Focus while almost everyone else has the improved Mk II? It seems like Ford doesn't care about it home market, with subpar and old products (Crown Vic anyone?).
Lack of charisma can be fatal.

Do european cars work in the US as a whole? Europeans ask for driver involvement and quality. America ask for low price and disposability. IMHO. i may be wrong....
