The "non-sense" part is solely the opinion of the moderators. It can lead to conflicts between members and moderators. A moderator has the power to label things that he/she thinks it's non-sense and use that reason to give the member an infraction and/or ban him/her. "Out of context" posts, however, can be clearly seen.2. Members are not allowed to make posts without a purpose, to make posts of a single word (unless it’s clearly enough to make a point or answer to someone), or non-sense, and out of context posts. The entire post should be readable, the use of hidden (white) text is not allowed. Also when posting new threads please add a descriptive title.
Second, why ban the use of white text? Nobody here, for example, used it to purposely trick an opponent in case of an argument, while lots of members, including me, and moderators here use it rather as a sense of humor. I don't think there's been an issue with it.
Maybe a word filter should be integrated into the forums as this rule hasn't been moderated much. I've seen the word "s***" uncensored too often.6. Swearing or using pornographic or other shocking images are actions which can lead to severe moderation. Before posting any material than can be considered shocking, please ask the moderators to evaluate whether it can be used or not.
I'm only asking one small favor in behave of all our members. Can the moderators/administrators notify us in case of a rule change? At least we'd know that there are new rules so we can follow it. I don't think anybody pops in the guidelines page to check everyday.16. Any of these rules can be revised by the moderation or administration without any previous warning.
And please don't lock threads when only a few posts got off-topic or offending. Please moderate the offending posts instead of disallowing members to keep discussing on-topic.
Last but not least, in the case of infraction and/or ban, the moderator should specify the issue to the offending member. If the issue is unclear/borderline (like Cotterik's case), please discuss with other moderators and even members before action. I, and many other members, do not think Cotterik was being racist, even though I disapprove of what he say. I feel that freedom of speech has been greatly limited in the forums lately.
If you compare the current UCP to a year ago, we all used to joke around on the forums and have friendly discussions. It was fun. But now, everything turns serious and nobody can take a joke anymore because as soon as that happens a moderator would step in and label it as flaming, off-topic, or whatever the case might be. The biggest problem is that the moderating team is appearing as a superior race and a sign of dictatorship, especially after the infraction system was set.
Well-said, but the limitations on the freedom of speech isn't allowing much "sane sociability". You may argue that there are no written limitations on our freedom of speech, but the next time we joke around we're surely getting an infraction.1. A forum is a space for debate and opinion exchanging. Any post that goes beyond the limits of a sane sociability, whether they are rude, insulting, personal attacks or intended to fire up a conversation, can be moderated and its author hold responsible.
When the moderated member disagrees or wants to be informed about the reasons that lead to the moderation act, he shall contact a moderator by PM.

Full agreement. The way I saw it, white text was only ever used as a tool for humor.
A complete ban on swear words is taking it too far. There are appropriate times and circumstances.Maybe a word filter should be integrated into the forums as this rule hasn't been moderated much. I've seen the word "s***" uncensored too often.
If you have a different view from the others, you get jumped on and squashed. Some people I've seen on here need to approach differing views in a more sensible/ civilized way. I didn't read through the whole situation with Cotterik, but whatever he says is his own opinion and he shouldn't be penalized for it.Last but not least, in the case of infraction and/or ban, the moderator should specify the issue to the offending member. Not sure about that. I'm on here quite a bit and I don't notice any signs of a dictatorship or superior race. I just see them as members with an obligation to keep the forums in order and serve the interests of the members. Maybe you're perceiving 'them' as high and mighty because of the bold usernames! We all know that I'm superior because my username has a double underlineThe biggest problem is that the moderating team is appearing as a superior race and a sign of dictatorship, especially after the infraction system was set.

In regard to the whole free speech issue, forums are a place for opinion exchanging. Freedom of speech > everything.

Are you implying its because of the infraction system, or using it as a referance in time? The infraction system is a method of warning users, and even then has warnings of its own! Its designed to promote activity, even if you get handed a few infractions it takes 10 points to earn a 1 day ban through the system.

Infractions were designed to prevent banning.
I don't know how many times i can repeat it but UCP is not. IS NOT.IS NOT a democracy.
either learn to work within the rules (which the majority of members do) or get over it.

surely the responsibility of being a moderator is to make a judgement on your own, not check with everyone to see if it OK to do so.
surely a temporary ban is (relatively) inconsequential anyway as cotterik will return in a week, so what has he lost?
they are a "superior race".
they have been given extra abilities above those of the majority of members because the owner of the website has deemed them responsible enough to use them properly. my highlighting of that word indicates, yet again, that UCP need not be a fair place.
if you are unhappy, voice your concerns once, perhaps privately with the moderating team, and then leave it be.

This is true, and likely impossible to change, but that doesn't mean that it cannot be democratic in spirit, am I correct?
I always thikn there should be room for a thread like this where UCPers can peacefully discuss any possible changes that they might like to see.
