    Thanks everyone, I appreciate it

Badda: I'm pretty much set on VMI, I know they suck and they're D-1AA, but they kick a lot of field goals. It's also the school I would go to if I didn't kick balls.

    Zytek_Fan: NO

    Smokescreen: ehh

    BlingBling: 3.7GPA, 1270 SAT

Sicilian: No, I got screwed by a really bad hip flexor sprain in the middle of the season and missed 3 weeks, which killed my chances as first-team all district. I got second-team for the second year in a row

Rocke: I would kill to kick at Rutgers, but it's so far away, and theres no way I'm getting an offer from them.

do you have any aspirations to play pro? because playing 1-A is basically a requirement, just take whatever I-A offer you can get and make a name for yourself in college, assuming you want to go on to the NFl, that is.

If not, then just play somewhere where you'd like to go to school anyway, and have fun.

Not at all, people in lower divisions make the pros all the time, however they're rarely drafted. The best kicker in VMI's history, Craig Jones, got an offer from the NY Giants. He was also the best kicker in the nation and kicked in the east/west bowl in hawaii. And the Senior Bowl. I got to talk to him on the phone and he put in a good word for me with the coaches at VMI.

I'm not getting my hopes up at all for the NFL, that's such a huge longshot for all kickers that it isn't worth considering unless I have a stellar college career.

I went up to VMI today to talk to the coach, and I have an official visit in February. Basically all recruits take an official visit to see all the facilities, spend a night, talk to coaches, etc.

And I quote Coach Reid: "We'll take you in a second."

I guess, if you look through rosters there aren't any Div. 2 and few D1-AA players, so while they may MAKE the NFL, I suspect they have short careers.

I have no idea about how NFL kickers work though.

You'd be really surprised as far as how many people from no-name schools are in the NFL. Some players are naturals at the pro-level, but don't do that much in college.

Basically all kickers (Except Mike Nugent) have to go to NFL combines to get noticed, they're very rarely drafted.

Don't forget Wayne Chrebet, the Jets ol' trusty receiver. Hofstra is like 45 minutes from my house.

I got back from my official visit for VMI yesterday, now I'm an "invited walk-on." They said I'll probably do kickoffs my freshman year, then take over the rest of the kicking duties from my sophomore year on. I'll be put on scholarship when I'm the starting kicker.

    Life is good

Awesome stuff, they're Division II right?

    Cough, go to Rutgers.
