    Shower Leak = The Suck

so... the shower leaked... so I recaulked the tile... good to go...

so... the shower leaked, again... the wife says, "fix it right"

So I devise a plan to remove the tile and put up pre-fab plastic walls...

come to find out, the builder (30+ years ago) put tile over sheet rock...

so now, I have to remove all the sheet rock and put up green-board (or the like) and then put my shower back in... pics, as the progress goes (these pics are what I got done last night - I started with a leaking, but fully tiled shower)

one more... hopefully, I can get it all torn down this weekend...

(note the mold - the reason you don't use sheet rock in a f*cking shower/tub)

Don't you just wish you can see behind walls when you buy your house?

You might want to consider cement board over green board, as its more water resistant and because some codebooks won't even allow green board anymore. Then again if your still planning plastic or fiberglass walls it probably wont matter much. My dad is currently "flipping" a small house and he doubled the size of the shower with cement board and tiles, because our local fire code wouldn't allow the green board for some reason.

Good luck with it, hopefully you get it done before you start to smell bad

Yeah, a good one to use is "Hardibacker". It's a pain in the ass to cut, but it's strong and totally waterproof.

    You and your "paper" house's

Well best of luck... having to work in that kind of space has got to be hard.

well, the good new is, it's the shower in the Master Bathroom - so I've still got a whole other fully functional bathroom... A buddy from work is going to be helping me tomorrow - I think he said something about a cement board something or other instead of green-board (will post up some more pics tomorrow with progress from tonight...

here's how it sits right now... got the water/mold proof board stuff from the store and a couple of 2x4's for extra bracing - since I didn't cut it to the studs...

Shouldn't have bought that flimsy house. Your lucky that wolf hasn't turned up yet like I've prophesised.
