    GM possible to buy Chrysler!

Man, doesn't that sound too far out to be real!

But, according to this article, it's a possibility:
    http://money.cnn.com/2007/02/16/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes

However, many experts consider it unlikely, but Chrysler is likely to find a new owner. According to the article, one possibility is Renault/Nissan. (Viper Z? Viper R37? Clio SRT-3.5?)

But in imaginationland for a second... Imagine if GM DID by Chrysler... The same company producing both Corvettes and Vipers? O.O Would they cut one in order to remove competition for the other?

GM buying Chrysler would be a very clever idea...

Stupid idea, they'll ruin it by re-naming it Daewoo or something...

Too much direct competition for that to be a good idea. Challenger vs. Camaro, Viper vs. Corvette, their mid-range family sedans are direct competitors, same with minivans. About the only two that would compliment each other are the Cobalt and Caliber.

    I don't think it'd be a smart business move.
i was waiting on a moment, but the moment never came. all the billion other moments, were just slipping all away. i must have been tripping, we're just slipping all away. just ego tripping.

I'm sure Daimler-Benz would be very happy to sell Chrysler.

With the kind of loses they have and uninspired products like the Sebring or the Caliber, re-naming is the least of its problems.

I don't like the idea but this Clio with the 3 and a half cylinder engine sounds interesting

Isn't Chrysler like one of the main companies, hence the name Daimler Chrysler..? The Caliber is awesome, my friend has one, I like the design, hell the interior isn't even all the bad, and it has these cool speakers that flip down from the boot lid, great for beach parties or picnics... I agree with what you said about the Sebring although the new Sebring Convertable doesn't look half bad. IMO, GM are too big for their own good, Chrysler going to General Motors would most certainly be their undoing.

EDIT: besides, isn't the Caliber a Dodge?

The two companies in Daimler-Chrysler are Daimler-Benz (basically Mercedes-Benz) and Chrysler. This year Chrysler's loses greatly reduced Daimler-Chrysler's overall profits. As a result of constant underperfoming and underachieving Mercedes-Benz would be very happy to get rid of Chrysler in order to win more money, and news articles already hint at that, like this one.

Concerning Chrysler's products I think they are pretty awful, with a couple of excpetions, the 300C/Charger and the Viper, which anyway aren't very suited to Europe. The other European products, so far the Caliber and the Avenger/Sebring, seem to be pretty awful and not suited at all to Europe, and sell accordingly. Especially the Caliber which is just way too big for C-segment hatchback. Furthermore recent Jeep products seem to be despised even by americans...

This is a dumb move. Why would GM dig itself a bigger grave when it's already in the red already? It doesn't make sense. It doesn't even have the money to help itself. What's the point in buying another company that isn't doing so well? GM wants to commit corporate suicide or something like that? I personally wouldn't mind GM going away.

A lot of people favor the move because they'd rather see Chrysler owned by GM than a Chinese company.

Still, I'd rather see Chrysler stay where it is.

(dodge is owned by Chrysler and would probably stay part of it)

Ah, that'd be why Mercedes & Smart have a separate showroom from Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge at Pentagon in Portsmouth... So would Jeep be part of the move too?
