    New 8-series?

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-8-series-future.html

Well looks like there is a chance of a new 8-series. Unfortunately if it ever goes into production it may be a 4 door to compete with the MB CLS instead of the 2 door luxury/gt to compete with the Mercedes CL-class.

It'll probably be ugly as sin, but I'll keep my hopes up.

no way, i will hate bmw for this if they make it a 4-door. it's all good if they make it a true 2-door coupe. They could even bring back the B-pillarless design.

    Bring back?

You do realise that the new MB CL has no b-pillar?

If it ever goes on production, I doubt about it looking like in the picture because the picture is only a chop from a m6 picture.

Its a neat idea but just that. It probably won't ever happen. It'd be cool if BMW brought back the 8-series as a coupe only IMO though.

    Wasn't the last 8-series a bit of a flop...?

I don't know why it was a flop. One of the most amazingly beautiful cars ever imo. Loved them ever since I saw them. In my dream garage for sure. I don't want them to dare make one because I know it'll not do justice to the original i fear...

Surely that would be the 6-Series?

Altough you do have a point, isn't the CL like a lot bigger?

probably because it was an awfully complicated motorcar. If you buy one now and they can be had rather cheaply, you have to prepare for horrendous maintenance costs, probably equal to Ferrari levels.

Yes, much. It weighs about 400kg more (2100kg vs ~1700kg for the 6-series IIRC) For all intents and purposes, the CL is a S-class coupe. I think if BMW were to go ahead with an 8-series now, as a CL competitor, it'd have to be based off the 7-series chassis, or at least something similar in size, to put it up ahead of the 6-series.

Were the old 8- and 6- series models in production at the same time?

The CLS is actually built on the basis of the E-class (Same wheelbase), the S is just used to fool people...

Yes but we were refering to the CL-class which is based in the W216 S-class.

No, the 8-series was meant to replace the 6-series.
