I've never actually raced, but every trackday I attend with my jap-econo-box is heaps of fun.

they have to be taped up on a race track so in a collision the shards don't fall all over the place iirc

Function- to avoid injuring people with glass shards when or if it crashes.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

I don't think it's injuring but rather if a crash happened and bits of glass from the lights were lying on the track this could led to punctures and dangerous situations (like more accidents).

You should've never confessed that you want one, here! Now they'll never leave you alone. There's also a great chance of someone sugesting a Corvette engine for you probable MX-5. This is hell here.

I'm surprised no one ever suggested you to drop an LS7 in your 850... or even a 1.8T.

This weekend was the debut with Julia.
I was pretty excited before this weekend as you can understand.

I traveled the 350 km's down on Friday night and arrived to horrible rain and + 5 degrees. Pretty shitty yeah. The rain continued all through the night, and a bit out in the morning. Lucky enough the rain stopped about half an hour before my first practice, and the two training passes before mine helped to dry up the track before we got out.

First practice session was all testing and little pushing.
Second pass was a bit more of the fun, I discover fast that this car needs a completely different driving style than what I'm used to from the Seven.
The rear is set up really soft, and throttle steering is a key-word to driving this car fast.

Quali doesn't give me anything but more practice, and I get to start way back in the field. Not a surprise really, this is the first time i take her to the track at all so.

First final is on Saturday as well. Turns to be a funny race for me, I find a MG that I battle with all the race and it gives me plenty of challenge with the car.
Unfortunately he beat me in the end. Good practice all the way, and good fun. 4th position in my class, of 6 cars.

Right after the race I jump in the car to pick up a Aussie tourist some 100 km's at the nearest train station. Great to meet with some tourists to!

Sundays final also gave me good challenge and practice with the car.
I manage to beat the MG that beat me the other day, and that is good sign of progression with the car. 3rd position in my class.

The classes is divided by engine size: Under 1300ccm (Minis), from 1300 to 1600 (Lotus Cortina , Escort Twin cams), 1600 to 2500 (my class, Escort BDA, BMW 2002) and one for the above 2500ccm (Mustangs and other American).

The first weekend also contains some problems, as badly unbalanced wheels, which was really mentionable down the straights. Also my rear axle got a heavy leak, that was probably caused by the trailering down, and then it got worse when the whole thing got some good heat at the track.
But I hope I have sorted it out this night.

I also rented out my seven to a friend of mine. He had not much track experience, as he is a hill-climb/rally-cross guy. He managed though to get one 4th and one 2nd position in his finals and was very excited about the amount of time he got to drive on the track, compared to the hill-climbs he normally contend.

Great stuff and a very nice result for a 1st time out. Some of your opponents, like the BDA, are probably unreachable, so this sounds like a good result.
The soft rear is part of the Julia tradition. That's why you usually see them doing wheelies, but it probably improves traction out of corners.
What MG was that? A Midget? Cause I love midgets, you know?

Yeah, I know you love them
    It was an MGB actually.

The BDA is probably unreachable yeah, about 40-45 hp more than me and the car weighs the same. But that doesn't matter much for now, improvement on the track is more important. Next national race weekend will be on a more twisty track, so it should be in Julias favor.

    Here is the MGB.
