    Porsche 997 Turbo Cabriolet

911 Cabriolet, taken from the porsche.com site.

It looks pretty good. However, I like the coupe better.

BTW, will Porsche make a 911 Turbo S version of either the coupe or the cabriolet?

Edit: Can someone add Turbo to the title please? Thanks mods.

I hadn't seen those. I had seen the yellow ones though. and I think it still is too early to know if they'll do a Turbo S.

Looks incredible in that colour, autocar had some pics in yellow, which didnt suit it all that much IMO. Still would opt for the coupe.

Same. The Cabriolet looks good but compared to the Coupe it looks awkward.

Thanks for the change to the title mods.

It'd be cool if they did though. Really is kind of redundant, with the GT2 and GT3. However, the GT2 and GT3 only comes in coupe forms right? Then if they do make a Turbo S then that will be the fastest drop top 911 so far.

I really don't like the colour, to make up my mind i'd have to see it in navy or silver, doubt too many people will walk out of the dealership and order it in brown..

It looks awesome. That bronze seems to be a perfect match for the car. The second picture is great.

    It is. But it isn't a 911.

I don't find it very harmonious... The Carrera S Cabriolet looks better to me.

Can someone explain Porsches for me?

    AFAIK -

911 - A continuous model, denoted by 996, 997 (perhaps next would be dubbed 998)

911 Turbo - Turbo charged, with side scoops

    911 GT2 - The extreme version of 911 Turbo

    911 GT3 - The extreme version of 911

    Then what is Carrera?

Carrera used to be a name for the fastest most focused Porsches. It dervies from "La Carrera Panamericana" a gruelling road race held in central/south america in the early 50's (1950-1954, IIRC). It was at first an american-only race but it soon attracted the interest of european teams with wins for Mercedes-Benz in 1952, Lancia in 1953 and Ferrari in 1954. Due to fatalities and dangerousness it was withdrawn from the world championship in 1954. The little 1500cc Porsches couldn't win outright, but they achieved astonishing results and a multitude of class wins. Therefore Porsche acquired the rights for the use of the word "Carrera" in its more sporty cars, starting with the 356 in 1955. It was used in road and racing cars the last of which was the 911 Carrera RS (and subsquent variants) in 1972. From then on the name when into oblivion, with some exceptions like 924 Carreras.

Until 1983, when it was used again in the standard 3.2-litre 911. While it hadn't the same use as it had had before, everyone agreed that the car was very important for Porsche. The 928 almost had replaced the 911, and the 911 was bound to disappear sooner or later. But the reuse of the mithic name was a signal that Porsche hadn't lost faith in the 911. Since then the name Carrera has stuck as the model name for the base Porsches. The Carrera RS tag wouldn't reappear until 1991 with another track-focused car based in the 964-series.

A similar story is behind the "Targa" name.

I believe that with the 356 model, it was used exclusively for the twin-cam versions.
