I think it's a typo, as all of us know that's a 1600 cc engine.
that or, as google, they (TG) can't discerner between the two symbols.

It's not a typo but a common convention adopted by car manufacturers many years ago.

A comma would have just looked weird, the dot has a nicer look on the badge.
It also helps having the lower part of the badge plain straight, without the comma.

Main reason is coz the UK uses '.' for decimal point and comma ',' for thousands separators. We've never used the ';'.

    Another historical abomination.
In the late 40s the Standards Industry unit documentation were agreed to be the STANDARD was defined in the English version and the period was defined as use for numbers .. but the French were acknowledged as using the comma.

BUT the French publications ignored this minor twist and later they forced the putting aside of the "English standard is the right one" in the SI and continued their practise of commas.

Interesting question from me for the vernacular usage is how does everyone say 2.3 in their own language ?

eg we say "two point three" and so clearly it's dot and can never really be a comma.
WHat do non-English language users say ? This has got me thinking ....

In the North-American Spanish I've heard, it's said "dos punto tres".
I guess it's symptomatic of being on the same continent as the US.

    NOW that left me confused
Use WIi ( ok I know it's not he most reliable ) and it said
    virgola f. (plural virgole)

    comma
    point
tre virgola cinque - three point five
zero virgola sei - point six
So sounds like you guys get one word that means both )

    wtf?!

Well, I must say, doing calculations, it is usual to say "3 punto 2 + 4 punto 6", meaning "3,2 + 4,6" even if we should say "3 virgola 2 + 3 virgola 6", as we do, if we are in the mood for it.

    Italians, damn poetic license.

Nah, that's a whole (false) different story, and unfortunately it can't be fixed with a comma.

It isn't that British cars had a good image over here (try to explain the 75 diesel had a BMW drivetrain...).

    Personality, they say.
