It's more ways to make the place safer. Driving while talking on the cell phone is just as bad as driving drunk. Too bad it isn't enforced much here.

It would be nice to enforce it better, but money is a nice way to make you pay attention to what you do.

Wow, sucks for Californians. Although I love California (namely Santa Monica and Malibu), they have some goofy laws and the price of living is way too high.

I think the laws are great. If you are a good driver that obeys the law, you have nothing to fear. Hopefully, people will think twice now that the punishment is so extreme, but it seems in all too many cases that people will break the law no matter what the price as they figure they will not get caught.

In general I agree, however I drive fine while talking, mostly because I make sure that the conversation comes second to driving, which most suburban driving soccer moms don't.

Either way, driving with one hand, you are not as capable as you are when driving with two. In regular situations it may be okay, but, if something bad happens, lives may depend on your control of the wheel.

    It's a good law.

I mean I try to avoid it, I'll just call people back when I get where I'm going, but if its my parents I'll answer and try to talk quick, because yeah, like you said, one hand isn't enough in an emergency situation.

It's good they jack up the fines for talkin' + driving.

I saw some chick take her hand off the wheel to check her messages in the middle of a corner.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

My wife got fined in the Netherlands for doing 0.6 mph over the speed limit (101 km/h in a 100 zone)

Those are some overly steep fines. Especially the DUI. That's just insane. I agree that people who are completely ****ed up by the booze that go on a rampage should be sent to jail. But those that are mildly intoxicated? Stick to fines.

The seatbelt wearing one is funny as well. What about the people under 18 ? Are they exempt for wearing one ?

The other ones are high, but seeing how 99% of americans drive it's probably necessary.

That's clearly 1 full km/h over the limit.

IMO DUI fines can never be high enough. Even so called mildly drunk drivers can and have ruined peoples lives.

I was gonna ask the same thing.

IMO Americans are decent drivers, I don't know how people drive in Belgium, but in Mexico over 70% of drivers are too agresive if not dangerous.

Oh shit...i misread 0.6 mph as 0.6kph but I was just making a joke anyway, so lets not get too excited.

That's a dick move on the cop's part though.
