BMW 2-Series [aka 1-Series Coupe] Pictures!

Freshly scanned from this morning's Auto Express just for you lot

The 2-Series range will kick off on 2006 with a 1.6 litre entry-level machine, using the 116i's 115bhp four-banger unit. A more powerful 150bhp 2.0 litre petrol model will also be offered, along with 2.0 litre diesels producing 122bhp or 163bhp. These will be the 218d and 220d.
The 225i is anticipated to debut BMW's all-new 2.4 litre four-cylinder Valvetronic engine, which will develop around 220bhp. All cars except the entry-level 26i will come with a choice of 6-speed manual or semi-auto transmissions, while the base model will have a five-speed 'box.
BMW plans for the 2 range to cost £1,000 more than the 1-Series across the board, while a cabriolet is expacted to appear in 2007, possibly with a folding metal roof, alongside the 300bhp 3.0 litre M1 and M2. The seperation of hatch and coupe models is set to continue elsewhere at BMW. The next-generation 3-Series Coupe will most lkely be banged the 4-Series. [Extracted from Auto Express Issue 803]

"We used to come down, doing about 180mph. We take off over the bridge and change down to 4th gear in the air. Go through the righthander with the car drifting, and let it swing out through the lefthander and then slide out to the wall, where we simply stopped it with a flick of the wrists"

It looks nothing like the Z4. The rear light clusters are vaguely similar, but that's all.

I'm impressed. This is the first Bangle BMW that I can saw I like. The styling really works on this car, not too bad at all. I'm sure it'll have the regular road credentials too.
Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory.

Thank you for that valuable insight into BMWs current design philosophy.

I definately prefer the 2 series to the 1. BMW hatchback just doesn't work.
If they had done it properly, they could have used the Mini as a proper car brand to sell a range of cars in the Smart - Golf sizes.

However, they have an entire brand that sells one car and are forced into diluting BMW's premium image.
It can be argued that they can still attract young potential BMW owners via the Mini brand, the showrooms are usually right next to each other/ combined.

The entire re-branding of BMW as being both engineering and design led is to attract younger buyers.

Although the 3 series is a hit with younger people, as well as performance cars such as the M5, the rest of the range was getting a bit "pipe and slippers"

By introducing younger, design conscious buyers to BMW, they can increase sales, and go on producing more M5's in the future.

The 2 cabriolet should look like this:

I didn't mean that the car is ugly, but rather it remembers to the Z4 a lot.
    the new designs of BMW are very beautiful 3, 7, 5, 4, 6 and the new 1 & 2

Bangle's designs are starting to show a little bit of improvement, but they are still no match for the older designs...ah well, he's heading in teh right direction, back to the old stuff!
