Mexico to build it's own sports car in 2008

Mexican design firm: Mastretta Design, is to debut in the Mexico City International Auto Show in December, the very first Mexican designed and build sports car. To be called the Mastretta MXT. It's to be powered by a 2.3 liter, 200 HP engine. The car will wiegh in at around 1,000 kg. A power to wieght ratio that should give it very good accelaration, handling and braking performance. It's slated to come to market the first quarter of 2008. Production is going to be 150 cars per year.

Edit: Before anyone asks, I posted this in American Cars because Mexico is in the North American continent.

I made a thread about this about 8 months ago...asking what it was :P I saw a picture on exoticspotter.com.
I'd say the back is pretty nice, original too, but the front just doesn't match up. It isn't nearly as beefy either.

Yeah, I was just about to say that I've seen it somewhere on UCP.

Still, it looks pretty good, and if it's done right I guess it could sell well.

That single exhaust pipe looks terrible, but beyond that I really like it. Kinda disappointing to see only 200 hp tho, although hopefully there'll be more modded versions if it's a successful car

It should be something like a Lotus Elise, considering that it's only about 1,000 kgs.

Nothing to be disappointed about at all, if a Lotus Elise is garbage.

Sorry for the repost guys. I didn't remeber about the other Mastretta thread. I too think it's a car along the lines of the Elise. Not as good looking, but it's a good start. Should be interesting to see it in person at the Mexico City Auto Show. I'm just guessing now, but I'm willing to bet it's going be priced between 40 to 50 thousand dollars. If it tiurns out to be good, they'll probably start exporting it in the not to distant future.

You're right, they even chose the same color.

I like it, except that the front windshield/cabin appears disproportionately large in the first pic. Anyone have details on where parts are coming from? I'd be very surprised if they were using only their own parts... especially when there's so many suitable engines (Toyota's, Honda's, GM's...)

This car looks rather awesome! I really hope this ends up being successful because I always like seeing new cars in general (especially from different countries). Here's hoping for a quality product!
