    UK Speeding record broken

Original Story Here - BTYahoo News

A motorist has pleaded guilty to driving at 172mph on a rural A-road, making him the fastest speeder ever caught in Britain.

Tim Brady, 33, was caught in a random speed check on the A420 near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, driving a £98,000 3.6-litre Porsche 911 Turbo in January this year.

The current highest speed to result in a conviction is 156mph.

In a short appearance at Oxford Crown Court, Brady pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving.

His plea of not guilty to one count of aggravated vehicle-taking was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service and he will be sentenced next month.

Brady, of Harrow, north-west London, resigned from his job at car lease firm Helphire at its Abingdon branch days after police stopped him in the car.

A spokeswoman for road safety charity Brake branded his actions "selfish".

"The idea of someone driving at that speed is horrific. The chances that a person will be able to control a vehicle at that speed if something unexpected happens is slim.

"It is extremely selfish. Nobody has the right to put other people's lives at risk like that."

In 2003, car dealer Jason McAllister was caught doing 156mph in his 3.2-litre BMW M3 in Scotland. He was jailed for five months.

Somehow I'm just not surpised by any of this.

On a side note, if anyone can manage to ram a car up the "Brake!" charity spokespersons' ass, I'll buy them a pint.

Well hey, u gotta open up the throttle sometime, not that i would advocate doing it on open roads, but if it's somewhere rural between towns then what the hell, just keep the car stable, know the limits of ur car and ur own skills.

Edit: yea sry, i've just come home after being stuck in major rush hour traffick, and was dying for people to get the hell out of my way, and let me gun it...the feeling will subside.

Some clown in a Koenigsegg during the Gumball Rally

May 2003, on the San Francisco to Miami Gumball 3000 Rally, the first CCR in the United States received the biggest speeding ticket in the world; 242 mph in a 75 mph zone somewhere in west Texas

Are radar/laser guns even accurate at that kind of speed?

They should be... considering both use light. Which is a little tiny bit faster than 243 mph.

But the processors in them may not be able to sample at the right rate at that speed.

I'm pretty sure that they can... It's not like we're talking about going ten or one hundred or a thousand time faster than a normal car... almost any car can go a hundred, 240 is only two and a half times as fast. Not really a huge difference.

Damn... this only encourages me to go to England and break that record with a TVR.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

The UK has some goofy ass laws and legislation...
He came dancing across the water
    With his galleons and guns
    Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun
    On the shore lay Montezuma
With his cocoa leaves and pearls
