    Citroën C4 (1st gen) 2004-2010

Citroen C4 Hybride HDi at Geneva Motor Show

Citroën’s environmentally inspired C4 Hybride HDi is a test bed of advanced technology designed to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions. It features a 1.6 HDi diesel engine coupled to an electric motor plus a particulate filter and Stop & Start technology. The result is a C4 that can stretch a gallon of fuel for a remarkable 84 miles whilst keeping CO2 emissions to just 90 g/km.

did you really look at the specifics of the car? I am sure the negative contribution the the GH effect of this one is only a fraction of that of say .....(here we go again, the X5, the Cayenne etc )

    Citroën C4 (1st generation) 2004-2010

    From Citroen Website:

The striking Citroën C4, a car that’s truly alive with technological innovations. There are two distinctive designs – a 5-door family Hatchback and a sporty 3-door Coupé – each giving you a blend of cutting-edge engineering, captivating performance and that certain Citroën style.

That’s two shapes – but one crisp, good-looking car, whether you have that zippier, sportier approach to life, or need to meet family lifestyle needs, rest assured the Citroën C4 will be perfect for you. Choose from an array of models equipped with a range of powerful petrol and advanced HDi diesel engines. Now also available with a new six-speed EGS gearbox that works with paddle shift behind the steering wheel, sequential shift lever or automatic mode, the Citroën C4 will give you even more driving pleasure by adapting to your driving style.

Take a good look at the Citroën C4 – because others will. It’s a car you can’t miss, an eye-catching exterior that sets the pulse racing. With its fluid, aerodynamic design, and a benchmark drag coefficiency, the Citroën C4 drives the concept of technology on the move to new levels.

And the Citroën C4’s interior? Just as you would expect, it’s stunning and roomy, boasting the best legroom in its class. Refined, harmoniously contoured and alive with technological innovations such as the cutting-edge, translucent instrument display that is as clear as day even in the brightest daylight or the multi-functional, fixed centred controls steering wheel that ensures that the driver’s airbag always deploys at the correct angle, which is a world first. These are just a few of the safety features that have helped the Citroën C4 to achieve a 5-star rating for passenger protection by EuroNCAP, which makes it one of the safest cars in its class. No wonder why the Citroën C4 has been named Britain's Best Hatch at the 2005 Top Gear Awards.

Engines of Citroen C4 sur http://citroen.C4.free.fr - photos et commentaires

Here we are presenting the 3 main engines of Citroen C4.
There is one 1.6L gasoline engine, and two 1.6 and 2.0L diesel engines.
These engines are common to Peugeot 307 too. The diesel ones can be found in many other cars of Ford group (Ford, Volvo, Mazda,..).
Let's note that the 1.6L diesel engine outputs the same power as the 1.6L gasoline engine (without turbo), that is great for a diesel engine (or quite sad for the gasoline non-turbocharged one).

    Nomenclature
Engines of PSA Peugeot Citroën group have all the same code names:
    [Type] [Family] {Displacement in dl - 1 liter} |Version| (Nb valves)
For example the diesel engine DW10 BTED4:
    - D: Diesel Engine (E for gasoline)
    - W: family of engine
    - 10: 2.0L engine
    - B: Evolution B of the engine
    - TED4: 4 valves per cylinder

    GASOLINE ENGINE TU 5JP4 - 1.6L 16v
Performance curve of gasoline engine TU5JP4.

TU 5JP4 engine is a 1.6L engine, with 4 valves per cylinder.
Maximum power is 110 hp, reached at 5750 rpm.
    Maximum torque is 147 N.m.

    DIESEL ENGINE DV6 TED4 - 1.6L 16v
    Performance of diesel engine DV6TED4.

This engine is developped by PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford Motor Company, and can be found in many car models of both automotive group, from Ford Focus to PEugeot 407 or Mazda 3.
DV6 is an engine developped according to downsizing technology. The displacement is reduced, and the specific power are increased to improve performance and reduce fuel consumption and pollution.
The power of this engine is very high for such a small displacement engine.

    DIESEL ENGINE DW10 BTED4 - 2.0L 16v
    Performance of engine DW10 BTED4.

The first evolution of this engine was the famous 2.0 HDi of Peugeot 206 and 307, in two different power: 90 and 110 hp.
These power are now covered by the DV6 engine. DW10B outputs now 138 hp (136 hp for Peugeot).

I like the five door, but not the hatchback. However I don't think either of them are as attractive as the C6 or even the C5.
