yeah i figured it wouldn't be that hard to make as they have the basis and all the bits already there, but apparently they need more time for the hype machine to build up

Well the "standalone" version is basically Race07+ GTR Evo. If you have Race07 already, you can buy the expansion pack, if you don't then you have to buy the bundled version. I bought it on Steam with Race07.

Prettier graphic, less content IMO than GTR2. Though I do enjoy thrashing FWD touring cars around. The menu interface IMO is shit.....

Well imagine releasing just the new cars and Nordschleife by itself.....could you make a whole game out of that? For hardcore simmer maybe, but for general public I doubt it....

BTW you seem to be involved in making of the GTR Evo, any reason why they decided to change the interface so much from the previous Simbin games? The new file system for looking up setup files from different tracks and cars are really slow. Where as following the windows-like file structure we are forced to scroll through the track list, and from track to track it takes a second to load. Then there is the whole new in-session menu which really frustrates me to no end just because all the Simbin game are usually laid out one way, but Race07/GTREvo(ie, "race" or "Drive" button on the lower right), decide to use that whole new menu, which means everytime I made a mistake of hitting "Continue" thinking I hit "Drive" I lose a session.....

Yes i've had many comments about this myself, but because of the current layout and steam config, it is impossible to change. I find it as irritating as you though
