    I prefer new balance...

    Check out simpsons shoes.
Simpson Racing, Simpson Performance Products, Simpson Racing Products, Team Simpson - Shoes > LowTop
Thats what the driver I crew for wears.

    But why?

I'm looking for a gift for the ol' man. He's not doing any racing and his interests don't lie in cars but he got a '68 chevy van a few months back and these would just be something special for him to have I guess. And it has been awhile since he's manned a stick so if anything can also help his footwork than all the batter. Not that he's bad at it or anything.

I'd go for the PIloti comfort ranges instead of the pro race ones. Save yourself lots of $$$ and just as comfortable, usable for normal driving.

If he doesn't race, and he drives a fan, and isn't interested in cars, I would be looking elsewhere for a present, but that's just me. Other than that, the only ones I know of are the Piloti.

By not interested in cars I meant that in the normal level of people who wears the shoes. He takes pride in his vehicle and knows all the ins and outs of vans and cars alike. He'd appreciate them.

Thanks for the tips, feel free to keep em coming.

If you're looking for just good shoes to drive in and not actual race shoes, I'd suggest Adidas driving shoes with the Goodyear soles. Great for walking or driving all day.

Haha yeah, well in my dad's car it's also a necessity since with shoes on my right foot touches the right side of the footwell, the gas pedal, and the brake pedal all at once. But in my truck I drive barefoot anyway because as you said, mad comfy.

Just so that you know, there are full race shoes with nomex in them that are fairly expensive, and then there are the "driving sport shoe" with no nomex and that aren't too expensive.

Did a quick check and for your price range I think you should be looking at Sparco (Race Boots).

edit: I bought a pair of Pumas Speedcats used them once, I guess they were too funky for my style... I like to drive with top siders, they have a really soft sole, are grippy and are fairly thin.

Yeah those are the only shoes I can drive in, wouldn't be a bad choice for your dad I suppose.

Agreed. Adidas Monaco's ftw. Remember, whatever he's doing isn't Formula 1.
