I am taking on my FIRST rebuild project, and the project car is a 1968 Mustang. It needs EVERYTHING. But the main question I need to ask is, what is the largest/most powerful engine that I could fit in this thing?

Maybe he has a lot of money, which in that case could mean he's paying someone to do it. Like the others said, the LS7.
Everybody has to start somewhere. There are plenty of books and websites to help. Just because he doesn't know doesn't mean he can't or won't.

what was the original engine in the car? Why not restore it as completely original, might be more worth while in case you will have to sell it once...
