    The difference between....

Your car and the ultimate expression of it's model.

    Mine: E28 535i
    Top: M5

    Difference:
    1x OHC
    12x valves
23x cubic centimeters displacement inside cylinders
    1x gear+Clutch pedal
    Swanky leather interior
    100x horsepowers
    1x inches of rim

    Many, many thousands of $.
Horsepower wins races. Torque pulls trailers.

    But yours is cheating.

Is the standard 2.2 HDi actually faster than the V6 petrol?

    Mine? 118d v 130i

    +2 cylinders
    +1000cc of displacement (but it's lacking a turbo )
    +8 valves
    +122bhp
    +40km/h
    -(almost) 4 seconds to 100km/h

no it is not, but actually any petrol will not qualify as "top of the range" (at least for French cars...and possibly for German cars too:)

    Mine:
    Alto 1.0 GA

    Top:
    Alto 1.0 GL

    Difference:

The thing that covers your luggage space (translation?)
Rear windscreen wiper (connections, buttons and wires are in GA version allready there !)
Clock on dashboard (got one from Halfords in mine)
Radio-casette player assembly instead of plastic cover.

Mine has no options or luxury at all. A radio and aftermarket cruise control I do have added by me/previous owner. Very "pure" driving experience
