FANTASTIC handling and as long as you keep revving it, fast on the twisties.
hmmmm, wonder if there are any Mazda AZ-1's for sale
Beat might be a little scarce, but there are still plenty of Copens about which are a decent ride if you can stand the look. You'd be surprised at how many seriously modified Copens are getting about in Japan.

A Kei version of a supercar is one thing but they also built a, wait for it....Kei Pajero!

    Behold, how cute is it?

My 875cc Hillman Imp GT certainly made "useable torque" .. how can this be? Perhaps it was malfunctioning?

Other sub 1.2 litre 4-cyls I've driven which by your "rule" cannot "start to get useable torque" must have been similarly outer-worldly.

These include Renault 10, the A-series Mini, and my wife's grunty little Peugeot 205, etc.

At previous employment I recall zooming around in a small forklift powered by a Datsun 1000 motor .. a piece of machinery which by your measure does not require "useable torque"

one can only surmise that theory and equations can only take you so far, before reality kicks in. who'd have thought!

Did you read the thread? Lots of interesting articles linked that talk about Kei cars and how awesome they are.

Basically, the reason they exist is because it is extremely expensive to have a car in Japan. Particularly in large cities, which Japan is almost exclusively made up of.
Huge taxes, high fuel cost, expensive licenses and in some cities if you want to drive you are required to own a car park due to how densely packed everything is.

    Enter the Kei car law.

A vehicle of certain size and engine capacity can be classed as a "Kei" and is exempt from many rules and taxes.

    tentacle rape?
    Are you Christian or something?

For more examples try googling tentacle rape, but be advised it gets graphic.

Very little cars are always under-rated for reasons that baffle me. I would love to see a 2-seater 1.0 Litre engine one day, with no room for a trunk.
