i was more thinking that an auto is a lot more consistent on the drag strip and johnny is no stranger to the track...

Red w/ black stripes, black interior. He's asking over 20 grand for it.

As for the automatic thing, I don't really care about it. I can drive both, but this car was bought just to drive for the summer and then sell it. It's not like you can go to a dealership and pick through 1972 chevelles and choose one. This one was a steal and in great condition, something I couldn't pass up.

As for the amount I could get for this car, we'll have to see how far I go with it.

Try looking on ebay to see what other ones are going for and base it off that.

    UPDATE
I started taking the interior out in preparation for the new carpet and seat. I broke the torx bit( snap-on ) while unbolting the seat belts, so I'll have to get a new one to continue. But I got the sill moldings off and some of the nasty carpet out.

I also fixed the spot on the trunk lid that was messed up. I found out that it was a dent that wasn't repaired correctly and it began to lift. So I brought it down to bare metal and went from there. Stripes coming soon.

I really need to start taking pics.

    Another update.
Got another bit for the seat belt bolts, got them out and removed the seat. I removed the rest of the carpet to find minimal rust for a 36 year old car thats been in the northeast. I ordered floor panels to replace from the seat forward.

    I took some pics too.

Pic #1: Drivers side floor, rusted out at factory seam and along the wiring harness. The new floor section will replace all the rotted area.
Pic #2: Seat belt mount. I'm going to weld in new metal all around it to regain some structure.
Pic #3: Trunk lid repair. It'll get finish primer before it gets the stripes.
Pic #4: Another view of the rear
Pic #5: Passenger side front seam. This side will get a new section also to replace the rotted area.

Paint it cherry red with black stripes, and get a 454 aluminum crate engine.

Johhny, on a project like this will you inventory all the things you buy/money you spend on the build to see how much money you make on the sale?

Nothing. Especially when they have a shift kit. In many instances, they outperform manuals.

Anyway, it looks like it has a nice, straight body. Definitely worth fixing up.

I haven't heard much about automatics outperforming manuals except for the new 911 Turbo where the auto is a tenth quicker to 100 km/h.

I figure you're talking about muscle cars Fleet then? You got any examples of automatics outperforming manuals?

    I don't see how a 3 speed auto could beat a 4 speed manual.

^ the toyota soarer is consistently faster with an auto than with the manual, most likely so are it's aristo and chaser relatives
both HSV and FPV vehicles post faster acceleration times with an auto too i believe.

What generation Soarer? When you're talking about HSV and PFV vehicles, what era are you talking about?

I figured autos beating manuals was only a very recent phenomenon that came with auto transmissions being specifically designed for performance in mind.

the twin turbo soarers from the 90's, and yes, the late model FPV/HSV's
most drag orientated cars run auto's though?
