Yeah my bad. That used to be my favourite but I got distracted by the 250 GT SWB.

Ferris Bueller's Day off is the reason I came to like the California.

EDIT: Ferrer, this is alarming. Yours and my taste have aligned!

The SWB Californias didn't start production until 1960. However, they did build the LWB which I consider a better looking and more interesting car anyway.

And for the record, The One is the 250GT Cabriolet Series I (1957-1958)

If you want to go fast cheaply and with good fuel economy and usability you buy a Corvette or a GT-R. If I bought a Ferrari I'd want so much more that the ability to go fast. I want the styling, I want the attention to detail, I want the passion, and the soundtrack. I want to know that I'm getting something really special. Are Ferraris perhaps getting too mainstream?
I don't believe they are in the least. Many, like the F430, are only "mainstream" because Ferrari owners just got rid of their 360s. While not everyone will agree that design and Italian styling is what it used be, I think most folks should to still be able to see, as you put it, that the attention to detail, the passion, and the soundtrack are still there.

The cars are still amazingly built, the passion is there with the owners and the love for their cars, and the V8s and V12s still manage to grab people's attention.
