    Odd Camera Noise

My camera, a Pentax k10d, is making a noise when I turn it on. It's a sort of "thunk thunk thunk" thing it repeats three times, stops, then the camera works fine.

    It's very worrying

Anyone heard of any problems with these cameras or got one themselves?

That's the sensor shaking to clean itself. They all do that.

does it have a screw driven focus lens? maybe that's the AF motor zeroing and calibrating?

Try turning the automatic sensor cleaning off. It's somewhere in the menu.

Its a lot more noticeable, it shouldn't be a thunk type of noise.

I've been using the same lenses as always and hasn't made this noise before now, I doubt its that.

Yeah, mine's done that since I bought it and it works fine. Go through the menus and try turning the sensor clean off, then turn it off and on again. The camera I mean.

My built in flash (which I never use) sticks and when it tries to pop itself up it does that. Seriously doubt that's your problem. I have a Canon, it's only when the flash tries to come up and it gives me an error... just thought I'd throw it out there, though.

    Thanks, that worked 2ndclass.

First I tried what you said and then I reset the settings.

Oh and I just realized it sounded a bit like a croak

Don't know how to help you, but my Nikon D40 sometimes tells me that my lens is not attached, even though I don't remove it since I only have one lens.

Once I jiggle the lens around slightly it detects it and works fine afterwards.

    Weird problems we all have.
