A V6 isn't present in the whole BMW group, it's out of questions, M-Motorsport can't build a completely new engine. Even the 6.2 liter from AMG isn't a truly new engine but just one of their (MB's) V8 with "just" a new/ heavy modified head (which is a complicate job for sure) and the same crankcase and other bigger parts, even if I know they also say it's a whole new engine, but they said they built it manually too, in 18.000 units a year...

IMO the nicest looking modren Benz.

i think that it would probably outperform the SLR.

I would love it to be a straight six again, but it doesn't make any sense. They'd stay with V8 power I think after switching away, unless they make a large displacement straight 6, which would be truly bizzare.

How "new" is the V8 in the M3?

Depends on how you look at it. It's kind of the V-10 from the M5 with two cylinders lopped off and a good bit of overengineering.

what he said. a good definition of it.
it's hard to say "how much" though, because it depends on "how much" they tell us and if it is all true.
beside, we can try to analyze things and statements, and find a little bit of true here and there.

The old E34 M5 had a 3.8-litre straight six so I guess anything is possible.

But I'd say that if they come back to the six it'll be as a result of downsizing with some turbos added.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.

nowadays relatively bigger displacements with relatively fewer cylinders are possible with last gen direct injection and turbo.
But my opinion is that they will work with the V8, with turbo, "kers" systems and other modern tricks.
