I'm confused is this the same guy who in Triumph TR7 was Scottish Rally Championship runner-up twice including 1981 which was only decided on a tie-decider in the last event then comprehensively won the '82 Title in the TR7 V8 through achieving "maximum point for only the 2nd time in the event's 12 year history" in a type of car you say was a horrendous atrocious handling nightmare and in his particular TR7 V8 rallycar you paint as prone to breakdowns, suspension collapses and weak gearbox yet praised by Wood himself as having "no major problems" and which proved to be far more reliable than his main opposition?

Max points came really because all the other top drivers moved up to the British Championship !

And he was getting good money from Leyland and Golden Wonder .. no way would he say it was a pile of sh!te .... he wanted a seat for the next season

Going back to what I'd said first, local driver has tried to get the TR7 V8 competitive usign modern knowledge and got nowhere when handling mattered most !!

Their fairly rare here and hard to gets bits for, plus the bits are expensive. Plus engine mods will have to be kept to a minimum due to the FWD layout. The cars he are looking at can be converted quite cheaply and effectively to be a semi serious track car with huge aftermarket parts available.

And its a 205gti, nice car but not something that would have great potential to modify here in Australia. I cant remember ever seeing one competeing seriously on a race track. Have seen a few in offroad rallies here but not very successful due to lack of aftermarket support.

Plus he wants RWD for skids

The 205 GTi unfortunately did not fare well under the Australian sun.

Most of the good ones are either wrapped around a tree or have well over 250,000km these days.

Weren't the 205 Gti's notorious for their tightly packaged engine bay? something I've heard was that because of RHD conversion you could either have Air Con OR Power Steering?

Later GTi had both afaik. No idea myself but its said that a 2 litre conversion is 'relatively' straightforward, such a light car should go like shit off a shovel with the MI-16 donk in it

205s are great to drive imo, I really liked Mrs nota's little 1.0 litre 205 'Junior'

Well if they shoehorned a 1.9 into there a 2.0 isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination.

I wouldn't kick one out of my Garage.

Damn frenchies and their flying croissants. They can't make one that doesn't melt under the sun.

    Or something.

If you are a man you can live without power steering...

Now that would be a fun little plaything Nota, Ive always loved th looks of the Pug and its a true hot hatch, minimal luxuries and a big motor.....
The Australian public has a real phobia of fast FWD cars for some reason

Nota get to bloody bed man... its late

Speaking of european things I went to U-PULLIT RACING today for some bits for the race car.... Volvo rear calipers off a 240, sweet little 2 piston caliper, the bolt up was different but found some off a 929 mazda that will do the job... any way next to the Volvo was a Saab 900 aero turbo and I noticed the front caliper, its a single piston caliper with a tiny pad and the bridge plate that is made of tin foil( hello caliper flex) WTF how do these things work and someone should tell Cyco to sell his Saab very quickly.

    Heres a pic
