How does this work? Are people supposed to vote twice?

There are 7 votes in the other thread and only 4 in this one.

    Seems a bit confusing....

The winner of each of the threads will be entered in a vote off.
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Indeed, apparently you can only add 10 images. So I split the voting in two.

In one post. So you could have made one poll with two posts. But this is fine too.

SO.... if the top vote getter has (hypothetically) 12 votes in thread one.. and another person in the same thread has 10 votes, that person is superseded by the leading vote getter in the other thread even if they have less than 10 votes?

I fail to see how that makes sense. In fact... well, never mind.

This way the shot that wins beats all other shots, which is what matters. The number for votes in the threads is irrelevant.

2 threads for initial voting... best of those 2 go for a run-off in a new thread. that one is deemed the winner.

its like a bracket. it's easier than you are thinking.

I think he has a point, even if, as Wouter said, it doesn't really matter how much votes a shot has but the fact that it won.
But it's true that a run-off between the two winning images from the two competition could be wrong. In the worts of the hypothesis, one image can win the first competition with just one, while in the second one the winner can have 20 votes, and the second 19, for example.
In this case, a run-off between the 20 votes images and that with just one vote, isn't fair at all.
I think we should stop making two competition, and entering all the images in the same one.
Finally, I can vote in a comp and not in the other if I don't find any image that suite my tastes, and this doesn't help balancing the two competitions and their votes.

that is all true, and it is your opinion whether to vote in both polls or not. but this is not the first time we have done things this way. for quite a while we had to do all photo comps this way because there werent enough spots in the poll to get everyone on there. it wasnt really necessary this time, but it is what it is.

so vote in this thread. vote in the other. then the winners will battle it out in a no-holds-barred grudge match of photographic supremacy. then, if everyone played nicely with others, we will have the consensus of the best pic of the week.

    That's absolutely not true.

Thread one could have a winner with 20 votes... and thread two could have a winner with 3 votes. So, regardless of the possibility of several other images in thread one having more than 3 votes.. in other words more than the winning image in thread two, they are discarded? Wow. Sorry.. that defies logic.

i understand what you're saying, but would the winner with 3 votes not still be the winner? and would the winner with 20 votes also not be the winner. so its just taking the best 2 from each thread. we aren't out to find second place, just the winner.

and trust me, this is the guy who has no wins up there talking. we've just been through this numerous times already, long before you joined this site John. it may not be the ideal solution, but its the solution we have come up with given the restraints of the software.

if you have a better idea, then please, let's hear it.
