Can't they just make it look like an old spitfire, MGB or triumph TR 6?

...and why the MX-5 should be similar to those cars since it has/had it's own personality?

The MX-5 never had its own personality really. It was a blatant rip-off of the traditional british sportscar. They even recorded the sound of an MGB gearbox to reproduce it in the Mazda, apparently.

But yes, making it look like them would be very wrong. The Micra "Mk 2" is enough I guess.

Ferrer have you ever driven one ?, would have to be one of the best seat of the pants driving experiences I have ever had, tactile steering , fantastic turn in and very controllable oversteer can be induced .... needs a clutch kick to get the rear out though, Please explain this mythical personality you quoting about.... Ive driven original MGBs.... very very average, not great dynamically either. never driven a Elan.

I love the car don't get me wrong.

But the MX-5 was designed originally to recreate the experience of the traditional british sportscar. With modern technology and usual japanese efficiency, no doubt about it.

I was originally talking about it look, the technical part of the car is obviously based on the "standard british small roadster" rule.

I took an Mk3 for a test drive expecting a nirvana moment and I feel the hugely wide 17´s they put on it kill the car, they make it have way too much grip and its pretty difficult to get the tail out. the smart roadster has half the power and you can get hugely satisfying oversteer at any u-turn. So I´ve heard obviously, I never did that .

There's nothing 'wrong' with the new Mazda 6 except it looks like every other forking JP sedan on the market today! It was *great* looking before and looked like a Mazda, it had a very 'Mazda 6' personality, but now they want it to have a generic JP sedan personality? Horrible! Mazda is one of my favorite JP companies because their cars have personality of their own. They're spirited cars.

What does a Mazda 6 have to do with the MX-5?

I'm actually quite liking the aggressive new styling to be honest.
