Yeah, I just had a look on AutoTrader, there's blue 1990 84,000mi version, totally unmolested but it's just out side of your budget and is in Ins. Group 14!

Found out today that a Mk.4 1.8 or 2.0 VW Golf GTi is insurance group 10. Gonna have less reliability problems than mine, but not gonna save too much money on insurance. Bit more performance though.

From Alfa to Golf Mk IV. There's a big change...

Just went for a test drive in this little stunner. 1998 1.6 Hyundai Coupe and very nice it was too. Started well form cold, drove very nicely, handled a bit oddly due to crappy odd tyres with incorrect pressures, but that could be easily sorted. It works out cheaper to insure than the Alfa, cheaper to tax than the Alfa, IMO looks as nice as the Alfa (if a little Asian) and will certainly not breakdown as much as the Alfa. I took it to my mechanic uncle whoi had a look at it and confirmed its roadworthiness. It's done 77,000 miles has a bit of tax and MOT and the guy wants £950 for it. So, any opinions?

This is worse than a public transport.

I'm sorry to say this, but you can NOT sink any lower.

Why? Badge snobbery? Tell me what's wrong with that car?

It has nothing to do with the badge.

It is a coupe with hideous late 1990s vanilla styling worsen by the red color. It is a coupe with 1,6 engine, FWD and rear spoiler. It is a fine car for a 18 yrs old girl, not for a former Alfa owner.

There are very few cars of which I have nothing positive to say. This is one of them. Again, I'm sorry if I have offended you in any way, but you did ask for a honest opinion and I gave you one...

A family friend has (had?) the 2 litre.

It seemed ok but nothing special.

But aside from the look it's a very reliable car and incredibly cheap to maintain. My cousin had one and never had any problems with it, hence why I suggested Dantera should go for it.

Agreed it's far from being on par with Alfa in terms of appeal, styling and prestige though.
