Well, I leave Tuesday, from what I can remember, this is the itinerary:

Frankfurt (fly into, leave soon thereafter)
    Berlin (two days)
    Munchen
    Dachau
Driving open wheel formula cars on the Nurburgring
Audi RS, Porsche, Mercedes and I think BMW factories
    Neuschwanstein Castle
    Dresden

That's all I can remember now, there might be more.

    With his galleons and guns
    Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun
    On the shore lay Montezuma
With his cocoa leaves and pearls

Any of the museums listed by others are fantastic spots. If you can, try and make it to Heidelberg. Its a beautiful spot with a channel flowing through it and lots of old buildings including a castle on the hill. My personal favorite.

If you want to rent a nice car that won't kill your wallet, consider the Mercedes-Benz A-class. That's what my father and I used last time we went to Germany, and the thing I liked most about it was the panoramic windshield. It totally adds to the sight seeing experience. May not be the hottest benz around, but you're not trying to impress anyone while you're over there, just getting the most comfort and practicality .

Safe travels, and enjoy your trip!

I'm not sure if we're going to Heidelberg or not, it was on my dad's initial list of things to see, not sure if it made the cut or not.

    We've reserved a "2009 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or equivalent" so I'm assuming we'll end up with a C, A4 or 3 series.

Its too bad you might not make it there. Here's what you'll be missing.

As far as cars go, chances are the A-class will run you less money, because its not the typical mercedes. But take it from me, it makes a great road trip car. Awesome for seating, leg room, enjoying scenery, plus you've got a great hatch style trunk in the back for easy storage without having to bend over to move things around. I'd rather use one of those than my own C-class for a journey like that , and that's saying a lot because I LOVE my c-class.

That looks like one of the most beautiful places in Germany but is there enough things to do for a tourist?

Ended up with a 320d wagon, very nice. I challenge anyone to go more than 241kmh in one, I promise you, it cannot be done.

Full update later when I have more energy, I've just walked in the door and have to sort through about 900 digital photos and another 50 film before I can start posting.
