Like the UAW is the only organization with ED medication listed on the health care plan. The only reason this is even getting attention is because of the industry's current economic condition.

From my understanding ED is caused by a variety of other medical conditions, and therefore becomes a medical necessity and should be covered under health care. Honestly if you couldn't get one up depression is going to kick in extremely fast.

Nice sarcasm. It's beyond this though - the UAW in recent years has made more money than Toyota/Honda workers in North America and have been less productive. I like that auto workers are paid well as I think that it is good to have high pay - but high pay can strangle profit and the UAW may well be helping kill GM. GM has had a bad rag in the past what 20 years for having inferior cars to Japan but maybe if wages were lower then consumers would buy the GM products as they would undercut the Japanese prices.

Also, I wonder how auto workers pay compares with other manufacturing and line worker jobs - I would imagine very favourably.

My point is that the UAW's quest for more money may be a large factor in the (potential) death of GM.

It's got nothing to do with higher wages, it's do with things like health care, having to pay sacked employees until they find other work, etc etc

It's not the UAW which should be punished here. They simply negotiated the sh*t out of GM in regards to employee benefits. GM should have been stronger in their dealings with this thuggish outfit.

And then they complain when Companies shift offshore to other places to find manufacturing work. Where these sorts of legacy costs aren't required.

I'm all for workers entitlements & whatnot but this is just the epitome of ridiculous. GM would have to be in a much, much better position than it is in now for these payments to be sustainable, add this to the fact they're multi-billions of dollars in debt, and It's not just GM's current workforce that are going to have a rude awakening when this company finally tumbles.

Yeah the UAW needs to die. Don't they understand that if they continue with their ridiculous demands the companies they depend on will fail (and they will in turn have NOTHING)? I don't support bailing out the big three but it would be nice to see the UAW disband when thousands of non-union autoworkers work for foreign car factories based in the US (like BMW in SC, Mercedes in AL, Toyota in KY, etc) with much lower costs to their parent companies.
