    Lotus S2 Exige

Not sure if this post should go here or in the "Multimedia" forum, but did anyone see the Exige on Top Gear last night?

    Oh.

    My.

    God.

How incredible was that lap time!!! Using its semi-slick Yokohama tyres on a damp track it still managed to post a lap time 1 sec faster than a Porker GT3 in similar conditions! I guess that should finally settle all those arguments about the choice of the 1.8 Toyota engine in the new Elise/Exige. It was comfortably faster than cars with way more than twice the power despite having slicks in the wet! I shudder to think what time it would've posted in the dry.

Also that little film of it being chased by the Apache helicopter gunship, trying to get missile lock on it on the track was awesome. It couldn't get lock-on, it was just too nimble! Who says Lotus don't make practical cars, you never know when your nation's army may turn on you and you need to evade helicopter missile strikes on your way home form work. They've thought of everything!

Anyway, it was a brilliant program all round, and for excellent quality downloads of the Exige review, Exige lap time and DB9 vs TGV race mentioned elsewhere on UCP head to:

Loved the "show" but I feel a couple of 'corrections' are need for those who don't get to see Top Gear

These are the standard tyres supplied WITH the car and are road legal.
    So nothing too special really.

They were NOT slicks and would have given reasonable grip in damp conditions.

This was great fun televsion and totally pointless as their introduction pointed out and the last clip provide. Frosst they pointed out that in that situation they would have used the gun to tear the car and road up and the Apache isn't a helicopter for chasing things down with, you stand off let radar lock and blow it to hell and back as they showed in the last clip.
It made great television, but pelase, let's not fall into the mistaken belief that it reflected any reality or sensible comparison

Still a great fun show tho'
