what's up with nissan and heavy cars?

in another thread, i learned that the 350Z was quite heavy and after doing some research, i found that to be true. learned that the infinities were also heavy and the new GTR weighs a tonne. the old skylines were not exactly feather weights either.
so i ask the que, why do they persist with these heavy cars when everyone else tries to lessen the load? am i missing something? is it for stability? in addition, do u prefer a heavy stable car or a light flighty one. bear in mind that we are speaking about performance cars please. please share your knowledge. thanks.

Nissans have better weight distribution than Audi

But yes, nissans are porky, but practically every car is. Its for protection and safety.

I still am amused to see subaru market the 2004 liberty WAGON as being IIRC 1500kilos.

1365kg for the base model dude. haha. so that's a wagon that's lighter than a 350Z lol

Solid engineering. And it's cheaper to make it heavy.

i prefer a quality car. i grew up with big american V8 sedans that when you close the door they make a perfect shut noise. the doors were big and heavy but they felt solid. a car can be light and stable with suspension and aerodynamics. a heavy car well there is no excuse. today's cars have gotten heavier due to safety stuff as in computers and airbags and stuff. they have lightened the metal load. funny how older cars were more metal bigger and lighter but newer cars are smaller and heavier. i like a car that sits on the road nicely and doesn't bounce all over the place. when i drive the civic around a bend with bumps i feel as if the back is going to break loose and spin on me and in the rain the abs kicks in so easy on manhole covers. maybe its because its very light or maybe because it has a bad suspension? the G35 on the other hand sits on the road much nicer. you feel a huge difference after driving the civic for a week then the g. keep in mind the supra is also a heavy car. the RX8 is light but also has less power. Nissans aren't obese but they def arn't light. keep in mind, luxury cars as in infiniti are never light. they are heavy do to luxury equipment. my G35 is just as heavy as a bmw 3 series (G might even be lighter) 3300lbs for a sedan isn't that bad these days. Porshce 911 Turbo is also heavy (996). Nissan has no reason to make a super light car right now. the 350z is not an out the box track car. the GTR is also a bit heavy so that nissan can trim weight easliy on a vspec model. being under weight isn't always a good thing, nor is it very pracitcal

hm, but, with the need for a great performance car, wouldnt they try to reduce the weight. that is one of the problems i have with skylines. the damn tings are heavy but great nontheless. but i would like to see them with a lightweight sports car. a modern one at that.

    Ultimate 350Z:
    CF windows
    CF speakers
    CF rims & tires
    Cubic Zirconium fart can
    Titanium rear-view mirror
    Polonium-210 gearshifter

Btw, Does the 350 have a steel or aluminum chassis? Or both?

    the ultimate 350Z has a V8
although i guess that doesn't fit in with it's predecessors

    Jap V8s = oxymoronic
I'm not a big fan of V6s so
    I'd prefer a straight-6

...or, if you must have 8 cylinders, a straight-8.

nah, leave the straight six to the old skylines... would mess up the balance in a 350 (would it even fit under the bonnet?).
a jap V8 like the 1uz would be great in whatever form it's evolved to now... does nissan even make V8's?

    Balance is overrated.
Nissan makes the VK, which IIRC is a V8.

the 350 needs all the balance it can get
ah yes, i remember someone put a VK45 or something in a 350. iirc it's a heavy iron block 8 from a truck?
