MG TF? not available here. the solstice/sky, heavier but still sorta competitive. the MR-S is still around, right? i think the Z4 and SLK are way out of the price point.

They're fairly descent cars. Lack a little in power and overall handling but not bad for the price tag. Never really sold well.

that's a shame. if that car had a manual and lower price it would have been a good candidate.

@ pokey: In the current economic clusterfu*ck, the Chinese might dump MG. Don't think it's been very profitable.

@ Rocke: th Solstice didn't sell well because they didn't make enough of them initially, and who wants to be on a waiting list for a pontiac? After that peeps enthusiasm faded and they bought miatas.

in another thread, i learned that the 350Z was quite heavy and after doing some research, i found that to be true. learned that the infinities were also heavy and the new GTR weighs a tonne. the old skylines were not exactly feather weights either.
so i ask the que, why do they persist with these heavy cars when everyone else tries to lessen the load? am i missing something? is it for stability? in addition, do u prefer a heavy stable car or a light flighty one. bear in mind that we are speaking about performance cars please. please share your knowledge. thanks.

STI = 3300lbs
Mustag GT = 3483lbs
Challenger = 4140lbs ..... lol
Camaro = 3869lbs
RX8 = 2980lbs
S2000 = 2855lbs
Corvette = 3180lbs
EVO X = 3395lbs

So the 350Z is heavy compared to.... an S2000 if anything? an RX7? That's about it.

The 350Z is as heavy as a BMW 335i Coupe. The Porsche Cayman is about 200kg lighter. And the Z4 Coupe weights about 210kg less.

They weighed (a little) less, but ended up costing about the same as a Vette, so most people would have preferred the Vette. Besides, the facory started offering the Solstice GXP making it semiredundant but then GM decided to stop making the Solstice soon after. Now there are a ton of the GXP models being raced and doing pretty well.

There was a Solstice (non gxp) for sale here in moscow that I test drove, and I actually liked it. Well, I didn't really like the looks, but it's base price was several grand less than a miata and even though it weighed more than I would have preferred it was a really fun car.
