Australia drops tax on fuel efficent luxury cars

After a desire to increase luxury car tax here was blocked by the major opposition party the Greens aligned with the government to pass the bill, so long as they made some changes.

This will result in more diesels in the Australian market.

Does this effect large 4WD diesels as well, such as the Landcruiser & Patrol?

The deal included a tax break for luxury cars that use less than 7 litres/100km.
Somehow I doubt they fall into that category.

Ironically the import tax on luxury 4wds like fuel guzzling Toyota V8 etc is half that of other imported cars, including fuel sipping Toyota Prius. Go figure!

I'm not up to speed on company car regulations but wonder if the afformentioned 4wds could be exempted from the LCT due to still being able to be classified, and thus registered, as commercial vehicles? In other words you don't pay LCT on a truck

So is this tailor made for Lexus to Import the HS250?

In fact, I look at this as a real boon for Lexus in General.

Just when we had established we hated them...

Still, a BMW 535d for instance still qualifies.

I'd prefer to be running over penguins and polar bears before driving one of those.

thats because normal people such as you and i do not have a law degree, which is the problem here

impossible to understand politics without a law degree essentially

Will it apply to this dreaded C5, which is only being sold as a diesel in OZ?
