I see the similarities Ferrer mentioned.

I however do not like comparing dissimilar cars, and these two cars are vastly dissimilar in my opinion and thus comparing them - to me - seems futile.

If you're giving then I'm going 300SL if merely for the resale

Because I'd have to sell due to Gullwings being uninhabitable in aussie summers (like today)

The DS because it is more interesting, and I might actually be able to afford one.
The DS also has more character, IMO.

The 300SL is actually the car I have vowed to get my mother for her birthday when my affluent times come.

Is that important? There have been "supercar" episodes on Discovery Channel. In one of them Eddy Irvine attributed the 300 SL with very poor and tricky handling.

I don't think a person would buy a 300SL because of how it drives. They would get one because it was (or parts of it were) advanced for its time and it's also quite stylish.
That's partially why I picked the Goddess; it is advanced in almost all areas and it too is quite beautiful.

I have some idea about how comfortable the ride is, but I have never driven or talked to someone else about driving one, so I don't can't say I do.
I guess I assumed it could be good to drive because of its involvment in rallying.
EDIT: I should probably add rarity to the list of reasons for buying the 300SL.

I have driven a DS, briefly, but not the 300SL.

From all reports the 300 is good under normal conditions, but the swing axle rear suspension has all downsides of swing axle rear suspension (jacking, etc..) as you approach the limit.

I haven't driven one, but I know many people that have and they all say the steering is a bit heavy and the gearboxes on the early ones are a bit 'trucky', but over all the 300SL is glorious to drive.

lack of debate has never been good for any forum.....any of your acquaintances ever encountered snap oversteer, or a most driven in a sedate manner?
