The DS because it is more interesting, and I might actually be able to afford one.
The DS also has more character, IMO.

I don't think a person would buy a 300SL because of how it drives. They would get one because it was (or parts of it were) advanced for its time and it's also quite stylish.
That's partially why I picked the Goddess; it is advanced in almost all areas and it too is quite beautiful.

I have some idea about how comfortable the ride is, but I have never driven or talked to someone else about driving one, so I don't can't say I do.
I guess I assumed it could be good to drive because of its involvment in rallying.
EDIT: I should probably add rarity to the list of reasons for buying the 300SL.

I have driven a DS, briefly, but not the 300SL.
From all reports the 300 is good under normal conditions, but the swing axle rear suspension has all downsides of swing axle rear suspension (jacking, etc..) as you approach the limit.
