All openwheel racers (including F1) use simple bag seats. Take a bin bag, the lighter the better, place it in the car put in an amount of two part expanding foam and have your driver sit in. The foam expands to fit around the driver and the space in the cockpit. The ones in our formula fords weigh around 210 grams.
F1 certainly shapes the seat that way, but they still use rigid composite seats which are both interchangeable and still cause alot of bruising and discomfort for the driver if theyre only slightly out of shape.

Se mettre en route... The mold for the back is now finished and the whole seat should be done before Easter. We're using an LTM25 T300 4x4 Twill prepreg, Divinycell H38 corematerial and the mold is made from Ebaboard 60. The weight is 160 gram (computer model) and it will support a 50 kg driver.

Today the Eco-marathon guys set a new world record, 1246 km on 1 ltr. petrol The Norway Post - Norwegian winners in the Shell Eco-marathon. I guess it was because they had such a light and comfortable seat
