It's for the middle east, petrodollar sort of countries.

    I guess that explains it.

I know. I can't wait until some tycoon decides to use gold leaf on everything on this car.

That is quite possibly the worst color to use. It's like a glitter gold effect.

And to add to it, the SLS isn't exactly a good looking car.

    Eww.

All those comments regarding appearance weren't wrong. Up close and personal the proportions are, uh... clunky.
It has some attractive details, but overall doesn't do it for me.

    Tradition revisited: SLS AMG + C 112 + C 111 + 300 SL.

I don't quite understand why manufacturers insist in pitting their new car against their old ones.

To show that a new model has a lineage and that they are sticking to tradition - people (like you) like that kinda shit. Tradition I mean.

Maybe, but it makes modern cars look ridicolous.

Something else that I don't understand about Benz is, if you were going to call your bespoke AMG V8 engine a 6.3, why not make it a 6.3 in the first place?

    TRADITION!!!!!

(bonus points for those who can figure out what I'm referring to.)

What's the silver gullwing there? Is that a C111 relative?

It's to show how far carmakers have gone in safety, innovation, and weight.

I suppose "63" just sounds better in most languages.
I still remember the day I discovered BMWs monikers weren't always related to their displacement. Sad feeling.

It isn't related to the C111, it is a prototype supercar called the C112 that Mercedes pondered producing. More here, and here.

It featured a mid-engined 6L V12 with 408 hp, active aero and suspension and rear wheel steering. Fancy shit. Woulda been neat to have seen a production version, even if a lot of the tech didn't make the transition. Wiki says that there were 700 orders for a production model.

I think this car is a step backwards in the looks department. I miss the SLR McLaren's ferociously well proportioned lines. This only looks good from the front. Side and back view are horrible. Hopefully this was a one time thing, and maybe the future holds better looking super Mercedes.

Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson. When they compared the M3, C63 and RS4 in the Ascari Resort.

    Gimme the points!

Also I guess it is a 6.3 as an homage to the 300 SEL 6.3 from the 60's. But that's precisely the point. If you were going to build a new V8 why not make it displace 6.3 litre in the first place?
