Why on earth did Aston Martin make an offroad Lagonda? The Lagonda brand should be luxury sedans and sport saloons, not SUVs! The Rapide would've made a much better Lagonda than this. This is almost as bad as the fake rumoured Ferrari SUV.

Anyway, if I weren't told this was a Lagonda, I would've thought this is either one of those weird Kia, Nissan or Hyundai concepts, or a Lincoln.

    What's worse is the video.

You can tell the man unveiling it is embarassed, and the crowd doesn't know whether to applaud or not.
    Epic.

Take a few inches out of the middle.
Shoot the next person on the grille-design team who utters the word "Audi."
    Shrink the front.
    Classier rims.
    New lights.
Get rid of vents under the headlights.

It's all good. A nice classy luxo/sports sedan.

Well, long as they're making that, we don't really need to care about the Lagond anyway right?

Besides, the Rapide is more of a spiritual successor to the old Lagonda anyway.

This is a concept right? Its probably good for them to get all their worst design elements out at once so they can be roundly condemned and never used again.

Man that thing is absolutely awful. How can anyone who made the current range of brilliant Aston's think this looks anywhere near decent??

Yes, even though I'm not at all a fan of the Rapide (just another marketing step in the wrong direction), I do feel it is better than the other competitors models (Porsche's and Lamborghini's)

And the "Rapide" is even a Lagonda name...

In fact the 4 door DB9, should've been the Lagonda.

Somebody at the stand told about the marketing concept behind it. The car is aiming at "famous people" where every paparazzi is awaiting their arrival (for instance at the Oscar Award Ceremony. In order to get out of the car decently, it needs to be high on its wheels. So what this means is that we may never get to see Britney Spears again coming out of a low limo and showing ererything.

Regarding the current trend for massive front grilles:

    - I like the new Audi grilles...they suit the cars and give them a bit of spice (which is much needed in the case of the A3 - I can't understand anyone buying one of those as it has no advantages over its rivals).

What I hate are these new cars with big, bulbous front ends that end-up covered in a huge "mouth" to try to disguise all the flab e.g. Peugeot 207, 308 etc. I wouldn't even buy the facelifted version of my car because of this - they've ruined the face.

    maybe I'm happy about that
btw, probably the point is exactly this, they are aiming at a sort of customer which isn't exactly interested in the "Lagonda" name, let alone the fact that the car has class, elegance and proportions all around. They expressively want customers from Asia (a relative new market) and Arabian countries (so that makes me wonder why this isn't chromed), so this car probably suit the purpose pretty well.
it's still bad looking, nice ideas here and there, good details but the whole design is debatable to say the least.

    crash test for pedestrian safety.
look behind the current Z4 grille, the radiators seats about 15 cm behind it.
it's also good in small accident at low speed in the city.
still modern Peugeots look bad, agree.

I realise this and it's been debated before, but if cars can be made that don't look FUGLY (and they can) and still comply with the regs, what's Peugeot's excuse?
