If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

    Awesome!

I've put about 750 miles on the car, so I'll write a little review.

    Performance/economy:
I've gotten about 32mpg average so far driving the car, which is fantastic compared to my truck's <20mpg highway. It sits at about 2500rpm @ 65mph but over 3000rpm @ 80, where it gets about 30mpg. It seems like the turbo starts to come in a lot when traveling around 80 so you can be going 90 very quickly and not even notice. The 2.0T has great throttle response as the torque curve peaks from 1800-5000rpm. As with the family's other VW's its very hard to tell the speed you are going. The car seems planted no matter how fast you are going (I've taken corners at 80 w/ speed limits of 35 ). The steering feels very direct and precise no matter how fast you are going. The suspension is a little stiff on rough roads and jars you a little but its not too bad.

    Ride/Comfort:
The interior makes the car a pleasure to drive. The Recaro heated leather seats make for a very pleasant drive. You feel planted in the seat while going down the road and even more so while going through curves. The speedometer/ tach/ multifunction display is easily read while traveling down the road. The multifunction steering wheel buttons aids in this by being able to scroll through fuel economy information along with audio settings. Sound quality is pretty good for a stock system (premium sound package). The bass is strong which makes me not want to put an aftermarket system in like I was originally planning on. I haven't activated the satellite radio yet so I don't know how that is. The automatic climate system is easy to use as you can "set it and forget it". You can set a temperature and it will adjust the fan and heat to maintain that temperature. The sunroof is also a nice option to have to add some comfort.

The one thing that I'd change is make 6th gear more of an overdrive so I can get better mileage while driving 80+ on the highway. All in all, the GLI makes for a fun, quick and comfortable ride.
I give it two thumbs up.

Future plans: Lowering it. and some oem+ wheels.

Nice review there J#5. And nice car, congrats homeboy. Have fun with it.

Somebody mentioned Quiggs, he's busy selling porn and doesn't have access to a computer.

Oh and I quite like the deleted debate as well.

Nice review, seems like a well sorted car.

So are you back properly David?

I'm leaning towards some goals if I go oem. But if I do choose to go aftermarket, I'd get either the M80-Five or GTEN-B wheels.

Nice, not too big but fill the arches nicely. We don't get the GLI over here, I reckon there would be a decent market for them, and the GTI only comes with Monza or Monza II alloys, you lot get so much more choice over your side of the pond, deck spoilers, different bodykits, etc...

What made you choose the GLI over the GTI?
