I don't like this at all... Consistency should be part of consideration when awarding the champion. E.g. Massa won more race but also did worse on more races which costed him the title.
If they want to change the point system, I'd rather they go back to the pre-2003 point system, or give the 1st place more points so it becomes something like 12,8,6,5,4,3,2,1.

That Bernie and the FIA even had the temerity to push through the ruling on the eve of the season without any kind of consensus almost beggared belief, but what's perhaps even more incredible is that they've backtracked immediately due to the pressure from FOTA. It shows the power that FOTA now hold in the sport, and shows what the teams of capable of doing now that they're united. The teams having this kind of sway over Bernie and the FIA would have been completely unthinkable just a couple of years ago.

All in all, great news for the sport. Nobody saw any need for such a radical shake up of the system outside of Bernie's weird and wonderful mind. Great to see the powers that be finally listening to and giving a crap about what the fans and the teams think. I wonder whether they'll still try and amend things for the 2010 season, or if the ruling will quietly be forgotten about between now and then...?

It shouldve been obvious the teams werent in support when they were suggesting a points system of their own. You can blame Bernie/FOM for trying to pull the wool over the WMSC's eyes, but they shouldve been able to see it for themselves. Major blunder on the FIA's part.
