Rules

• The photograph can contain any automotive image (containing no adulterous material)
• The proposed picture must be your own and not found on the net.
• The photograph must be attached using the UCP system. Any picture not attached using the UCP system will not be in the voting thread.
• Your image may be up to 800 pixels wide or tall.
• Photograph may contain post-processing editing
• It is preferred that you state enhancements made, but not necessary.
• The photograph must be taken no earlier than three months before start date
• Each photographer cannot vote for himself, they must vote for the others.
• Any users who enter and vote for themselves automatically receive a 2 week penalty from the competition and all votes previously given to his/her photo are removed.

Is that tamron lens a nice piece of glass?

My best and fastest lens at the moment is a fixed 50mm f/1.4 but being a fixed lens it gets annoying at the best of times. So I'm looking for a fairly decent lens with that focal range and was just wondering about it.

I have the same 50mm lens (assuming it's a Canon) as well and it very rarely leaves my bad. Basically only for specialty stuff or when I want to force myself to stick with a single focal length, hoping it'll make me "think outside of the box" (or something).

The Tamron, on the other hand, is on my camera about 90% of the time. I'm very, very happy with it. While the construction and some mechanical details could certainly be much better, I'm more than satisfied with the image quality. I usually keep it at f4 or slower, just because wide the edges start to get a little soft when at it's widest, but even then, it's not bad. I've used the 17-40L a number of times and while it's definitely built better than the Tamron, the image quality is similar to the Tamron, if maybe a little softer, actually. The largest drawback to the Tamron, IMO, is it's motor. It's loud, slow and tends to hunt in some situations. When price is taken into consideration, however, I'm very, very happy with it and would definitely suggest it to anyone looking for a lens in that focal range (assuming you have a crop sensor, obviously).

no, this was a good opportunity to prove that it is not a diesel engine that is so overpowered that it HAS to win, but that factory support and first class drivers are the passport to a LeMans win.
