Difference between an Aston V12 Vantage and Aston DBS

What's the difference between these two cars? One's powered by a 510hp V12 and can do 0-60 in 4.2s, and the other is powered by the same thing, weighs about the same, and can do 0-60 in .1 of a second less. I mean, sure there are other differences, but when they look virtually the same as well what's the point? Why create a V12 model and a V8 model, if you plan on putting a V12 in the V8 one anyway?

I believe the V12 Vantage will be set up harder as more of a sports car, while the DBS is a grand tourer.

    Pim is correct.

Main details that separate them are shorter wheelbase on the V12V to make it more nimble, traditional shocks, against the Electo-Magnetic ons on the DBS, smaller (19") wheels. to provide better traction on poor surfaces when pushed hard.

The V12V is aimed at the market that used to buy DB4 GTs for some fun at the track, but still drivable on a day to day basis.

    I'll take either, thanks.

    - Wouldn't mind driving either as a daily driver if I could afford it!

exactly. Many complained about the lack of a proper sports car even after the introduction of the DBS, which was assumed to be so by journalists/enthusiasts. the V12 is the answer.

But, from the UCP profile on the DBS:
It offers pure performance without compromise.
Which isn't what a grand tourer does.

that's not the UCP profile, that's the BS in the press release.

That's true. I never really considered that. But still, if they consider it to be performance without compromise then it's not a grand tourer.

at that time it was the most performance oriented car in their line up. that's all.

    Yeah, what they all said.

But I'd choose the DBS too. The V12 Vantage is too short and stubby.

So it's safe to say that the V12 Vantage is the answer to the RS and Scuderia?

If so, I hope it rivals the competition well. I have a difficult time thinking that the road going Aston's are all that extreme; their GT racers are a completely different story though.

I would say they are in the asme market, but not in the same league.
Probably a Scuderia could be faster than a GT3RS, or just easily as fast due to the massive electronic, but probably the V12 Vantage is less competitive, perhaps like a GT3 or even less. It's still heavy if compared to them, but perhaps a hell of a work could have been done to the chassis. Just consider the lap times the Gallardo SE was getting.

I just like the look of the DBS more. Vantage fan still.
